Description
Akihiro Kaji is the charismatic ace of his company's sales department, admired by colleagues for his looks and professional success. This polished exterior hides a secret, narcissistic playboy who privately rates men on a one hundred-point scale based on their attractiveness, using hookup apps for brief, emotionless encounters. His carefully controlled world is upended when he is sent on an overnight business trip with Yu Fukami, a quiet and slovenly-looking systems engineer from the IT department whom Kaji mentally dismisses as a zero.
The conflict is set in motion when a booking error forces the two coworkers to share a hotel room. To Kaji's shock, he catches a glimpse of Fukami without his glasses and baggy clothes, revealing an unexpectedly sensual and attractive side. When Kaji accidentally exposes his dating app, Fukami calmly reveals he is also gay, leading to a passionate and unexpected encounter. Confident in his own appeal, Kaji proposes they become no-strings-attached friends with benefits, but is stunned when Fukami refuses and begins to coldly ignore him at the office. This rejection bruises Kaji's ego and instead of moving on, he becomes obsessed with pursuing the one man who dared to dismiss him.
The main narrative arc follows Kaji's journey from shallow narcissism to genuine emotional connection. As he persistently tries to win over Fukami, he discovers that his target is not merely a conquest. Fukami lost his parents at a young age and raised his younger sister, Sana, leaving him fiercely independent and unaccustomed to relying on others. Kaji’s plans are further complicated by misunderstandings, including seeing Fukami shopping for a ring with a woman, which turns out to be a gift for his sister's remarriage. A significant turning point occurs when Kaji catches a cold after a fight, and a worried Fukami appears at his apartment to care for him.
As the relationship deepens, Kaji sheds his arrogant persona, while Fukami begins to let his guard down. Notable arcs include Fukami undergoing a dramatic image makeover, cutting his hair and dressing sharply, which garners attention from other colleagues and sparks jealousy in Kaji. The series culminates in a hospital scare where Kaji is forced to confront his true feelings, finally admitting he has fallen in love with Fukami. Set primarily in their modern Tokyo workplace and their respective apartments, the live-action adaptation is directed by Eriko Shirai and stars Atsuki Kashio as Kaji and Yu Miyazaki as Fukami, scheduled to broadcast on Tokyo MX beginning April 7, 2026.
