Ginta Toramizu, a 14-year-old boy, is an avid fan of fantasy stories and often dreams of a magical world. One day, he is transported to a parallel universe called MÄR Heaven, where magic and magical items known as ÄRMs are commonplace. In this world, Ginta discovers he possesses enhanced physical abilities and is chosen to wield Babbo, a sentient ÄRM with immense power. Babbo, initially appearing as a small, talking wooden doll, transforms into a powerful weapon when activated.

Ginta learns that MÄR Heaven is under threat from the Chess Pieces, a malevolent organization led by the enigmatic Phantom.
