"Noragami" centers on Yato, a minor deity striving to gain recognition and build his own shrine. Without a single worshipper, Yato takes on odd jobs for five yen, aspiring to become a revered god. His life takes a turn when he encounters Hiyori Iki, a high school girl who saves him from a car accident. This act causes Hiyori’s soul to frequently detach from her body, leaving her in a half-phantom state. Seeking Yato’s help to fix her condition, Hiyori becomes entangled in the world of gods and spirits.

Yato is accompanied by Yukine, a troubled spirit who becomes his Regalia—a divine weapon forged from a human soul. As Yukine adjusts to his new role, he struggles with his past and the responsibilities of being a Regalia, often clashing with Yato and testing their bond. The trio navigates a world where gods, phantoms, and humans coexist, often facing threats from malevolent spirits and rival deities.
