Description
The Mysterious Youth, also known as the Overlord of Darkness and whose true name is Theos, serves as the main antagonist of Kamen Rider Agito. He is depicted as a godlike entity and the creator of all life on Earth, having emerged as the embodiment of darkness at the dawn of the universe. In terms of background, Theos created the world and then formed seven archangels known as the El, followed by lower angelic beings called the Malakh. Using the Malakh as a model, he created animals, and in his own image, he created humans. A great war eventually broke out when humans, believing themselves superior due to their resemblance to their creator, sought to dominate the angels. One of the seven El, Prometheus, sympathized with humanity and gave them the power of Agito, which allowed certain humans to evolve into powerful warriors. This act led to a devastating conflict that ended with a great flood, after which Theos sealed himself and all the angels away to observe whether humanity had truly defied him. In the series, the Mysterious Youth appears as a calm, enigmatic, and detached figure who observes the events of the story from the shadows. His personality is marked by a cold, godlike neutrality; he does not act out of malice but rather out of a sense of divine order and judgment. His primary motivation is to test humanity and determine whether they are worthy of the power of Agito, which he views as a dangerous and uncontrollable force. He believes that if humans cannot control this power, they should be destroyed. His role in the story is that of the ultimate hidden enemy, pulling the strings behind the Lords and the Unknown, whom he created to cull humanity. He initially appears as a mysterious youth who interacts with the protagonists in cryptic ways before revealing his true nature and intentions in the final arc. Key relationships include his opposition to the three main Riders: Shouichi Tsugami as Kamen Rider Agito, Ryo Ashihara as Kamen Rider Gills, and Makoto Hikawa as Kamen Rider G3-X. He is also the creator of the Lords and the source of the Agito power itself. Throughout the series, he manipulates events to push humanity toward its ultimate test, and he directly confronts the Riders in the final episodes. Development wise, the Mysterious Youth remains largely static in his divine perspective, but the series reveals more of his history and motivations through flashbacks and exposition, particularly the ancient war between humans and angels. His defeat comes when the seed of Agito within him rebels, allowing the Riders to reclaim their power and ultimately overcome him. Notable abilities include reality warping on a cosmic scale, such as creating and controlling the Unknown, telekinesis, energy projection, and the power to move constellations. He can also assume a humanlike form to interact with the world and is able to create powerful archangel-like beings known as El Lords. His power is depicted as being nearly absolute, and he is only vulnerable when the Agito power he has absorbed turns against him.
