Description
Giichi Onizuka is a central antagonist in the 1992 film, serving as a scientist whose secret ambitions place him in direct opposition to the protagonist. By profession, Onizuka is a genetic researcher working alongside his colleague Daimon Kazamatsuri at the Institute of Super Science. While the official goal of their work is to find cures for diseases such as cancer and AIDS by strengthening the human body, the research is secretly funded by a syndicate aiming to create mutant super-soldiers known as cyborg soldiers. Onizuka, however, harbors a far more extreme and egomaniacal objective that ultimately overrides both the scientific and criminal aims of the project.

In terms of personality, Onizuka is defined by a profound misanthropy and a messianic sense of destiny. He is deeply fascinated by insects, particularly grasshoppers, believing them to be the future of life on Earth and inherently superior to humans. This fascination is paired with a megalomaniacal desire to become the god of a new world order, one where he rules over a new species created by fusing human and grasshopper DNA. He is cunning and deceptive, secretly sabotaging the shared experiment to alter both his own genetic code and that of Shin Kazamatsuri, his colleague's son, without their knowledge. Onizuka is also a violent serial killer, regularly transforming into his monstrous form to wreak havoc and murder innocent people, seemingly for the sheer pleasure of indulging his violent nature.

His primary motivation is the creation of this new warrior race of human-grasshopper hybrids. He sees himself not just as a participant in this evolution but as its architect and destined ruler. Unlike the syndicate, which views the supersoldiers as products for financial gain, Onizuka envisions a world overthrown and dominated by his new breed, with himself at its apex. To this end, he views the transformed Shin not as a threat but as a potential recruit, a first disciple for his coming civilization.

Within the story, Onizuka serves as the direct catalyst for the protagonist's tragic transformation and the primary source of horror. While Shin is initially horrified and confused by his own physical changes and violent dreams, it is Onizuka who is actively committing the murders that Shin witnesses telepathically. This psychic link forces Shin to see the world through Onizuka's violent perspective and ultimately pushes him toward his own monstrous metamorphosis. Onizuka's role is not just that of a villain to be defeated, but a dark mirror, showing what the hero could become if he lost his humanity and embraced his powers for selfish destruction.

Key relationships drive the plot forward. His partnership with Daimon Kazamatsuri is one of professional deception, as he secretly works against the man's trust and uses his son as a test subject for a forbidden experiment. His most significant relationship is with Shin Kazamatsuri. Because of their shared grasshopper DNA, Onizuka forms a telepathic bond with Shin, allowing him to subject the young man to psychic visions of his murders. Onizuka attempts to use this connection to manipulate Shin, trying to convince him to embrace his violent impulses and join his cause. This attempt at recruitment ultimately fails, as Shin finds Onizuka's complex reasoning incomprehensible and rejects his worldview. He is also in opposition to the shadowy syndicate that funds his work; once his independent agenda is discovered, he is considered a dangerous rogue asset to be captured and eliminated.

The development of Onizuka follows a trajectory of escalating ambition leading to a brutal and ironic demise. After failing to recruit Shin, he attempts to leave the syndicate and strike out on his own, only to be captured by their security forces. While being transported in a cargo truck, the convoy is ambushed by a CIA team. Seizing the opportunity to escape, Onizuka instead chooses to attack his would-be rescuers. As he begins to transform to slaughter the CIA agents, he is struck by a rocket-propelled grenade and set ablaze. In a final, desperate act, he sends a telepathic plea for help to Shin. This plea fails to save him but instead triggers Shin's own full and final transformation into Kamen Rider Shin. In this way, his dying action ironically ensures the creation of the hero who will stand against everything he represented, rather than the obedient soldier he desired.

Regarding his notable abilities, Onizuka can transform into a powerful humanoid grasshopper mutant classified as a Cyborg Soldier Level 3. In this form, he possesses immense physical capabilities, including a punching force of two to two point eight tons and a kicking force of three to four point two tons. He can leap up to 114 meters in a single bound and run 100 meters in just 3.4 seconds. Physically, his transformed state is nearly identical to Shin's, with the primary distinction being his white eyes, which contrast with Shin's red eyes. He also lacks the third eye on his forehead, an omission that some sources suggest causes him to become more ferocious and animalistic when transformed. His signature power is his telepathic link to Shin, which is derived from the natural communication methods of grasshoppers. While he does not possess a third eye, he is a calculating and manipulative strategist in his human form, using his position as a trusted scientist to hide his sociopathic plans.
