Description
Joe the Haze is a fictional character from the television series Kamen Rider BLACK RX. Known as the master of a unique fighting style called Kasumi Kenpo, or Mist-Style Martial Arts, he becomes one of the protagonist Kotaro Minami's closest friends, a bond considered as strong as the one Kotaro shared with his former rival, Nobuhiko.
Joe's origins are marked by tragedy and difficult choices. He was originally a human from Earth who made a conscious decision to willingly submit to the Crisis Empire. This evil organization converted him into a cyborg, an act that caused him to lose all memories of his past, including his real name. Under the control of a monster named Nexticker, Joe was initially an enemy who attacked Kotaro. However, he was eventually freed from this mental control, regained his true mind, and subsequently became a steadfast ally to Kamen Rider BLACK RX.
In terms of personality, Joe is portrayed as a reliable and skilled comrade. After being liberated from the Crisis Empire's brainwashing, his loyalty to Kotaro is unwavering. He actively participates in the fight against the Crisis Empire, using his unique martial arts skills to aid his friend. While he is a serious fighter, his role in the story sometimes provides moments of levity, contributing to the show's balance of action and character interaction.
Joe's primary role in the narrative is that of a key supporting protagonist. He joins Kotaro Minami in his battle to defend Earth from the forces of the Crisis Empire. He is a frequent ally who appears in many episodes, participating in numerous battles and strategic missions. His skills as a fighter are highly valued, and he often stands alongside Kotaro when facing the empire's various monsters and commanders.
His key relationships revolve around the protagonist, Kotaro Minami. Their friendship is central to his character; Joe is described as one of Kotaro's closest allies, almost as close as a brother. This relationship is forged in the crucible of battle, starting from their initial conflict to their deep mutual trust. During his time under the empire's control, he also has a direct antagonistic relationship with the monster Nexticker, who serves as his handler.
Joe undergoes a clear character arc, transitioning from a mind-controlled antagonist to a heroic figure. His personal development begins when he breaks free from the Crisis Empire's control, driven by his inner strength and Kotaro's influence. After this transformation, his journey continues as a reliable fighter, though he faces significant peril. At one point, he is seriously injured by the monster Bosgan during a battle, requiring time to recover before he can return to help Kotaro in the final fight against the Crisis Empire.
Joe the Haze possesses several notable abilities that make him a formidable warrior. As a master of the Kasumi Style Martial Arts, his fighting technique is highly specialized and unique. He is frequently seen wielding a pair of sai as his primary weapons. He also utilizes the art of misdirection by creating smoke screens to obscure his enemies' vision, allowing him to attack or retreat with stealth. Furthermore, he has an extraordinary physical skill that allows him to dislocate various joints in his body, enabling him to escape from almost any kind of physical restraint or bondage.
