Description
Christopher Matts, infamously known as "The Bastard," stands as a retired supervillain once recognized as the greatest and most feared in his field. His criminal career began shockingly early, marked by the reported murder of his own mother as an infant. He established and ruthlessly controlled "The Network," a powerful criminal organization. His signature method inflicts prolonged suffering: psychically exploding the heads of a target's loved ones, family, and close friends, while deliberately leaving the target alive to endure crushing grief. This extreme retaliation manifested when Danny Dubrovny attempted a minor scam; The Bastard massacred 241 of Danny's acquaintances and loved ones, culminating in his girlfriend's murder, sparing Danny solely to maximize his anguish.

His psychic powers induce fatal internal pressure within a victim's skull. Symptoms escalate from nosebleeds and bleeding eyes to an intensifying headache described as "someone pumping a tire" inside the head, culminating in violent cranial explosion. Once psychically locked onto a target, escape is impossible.

Personality-wise, profound sadism, pettiness, and sociopathy define him. Surface-level politeness and an appreciation for art thinly mask his ruthlessness. He murders readily for trivial reasons: executing four individuals for insufficient applause, killing a prison guard for using a phone during duty, and murdering his servant Miguel simply for disliking surprises. Boredom, stemming from uncontested power and immense wealth, ultimately drove his decision to retire, though he later expressed nostalgia for his active villainy.

After amassing billions, he retired to Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands. He enforced a strict exclusion zone against other supers, employing the fallen superhero Praetorian as his sole bodyguard and security head. He transferred control of his criminal operations to his lieutenant, Salamander, maintaining his fearsome reputation through sporadic acts of brutality.

His retirement shattered when Johnny Bolt's crew targeted his fortune. Capturing Bolt's girlfriend, Kasey, he interrogated her with truth serum, learning of the heist and intending to kill her as a warning. However, Kasey's psychic abilities trapped him in an elaborate illusion set within an abandoned amusement park called Banana-Land. Believing he killed Kasey within the illusion, he instead murdered his servant Miguel. Simultaneously, robbers plundered and destroyed his mansion, stole his fortune, and left Praetorian with permanent brain damage. The Bastard only recognized the deception upon noticing flaws in a forged copy of his prized Mondrian painting.

Consumed by rage and vengeance, he returned to active villainy. Mistakenly blaming Salamander and his crew for the heist due to identical uniforms worn by Bolt's team, he tracked them to a casino and executed them all. This act of retribution reignited his satisfaction with his former life, prompting him to reclaim leadership of his criminal empire.
