Description
Barunborun is a monster, specifically a strange demon warrior belonging to the Strange Demon Mutant Beast Battalion, featured in the television series Kamen Rider BLACK RX. This creature possesses a peculiar and grotesque appearance, characterized by a massive, single eye dominating its body, combined with a long, elephant-like trunk that serves as its mouth. True to its monstrous nature, Barunborun wields considerable physical strength, described as possessing the number one power in its battalion, and has several notable abilities in combat. From its singular eye, it can fire a destructive beam, and from its trunk-like mouth, it can spew high-pressure gas. In addition to these brute-force attacks, Barunborun is also skilled in the use of hypnosis.
The character's primary role in the story is as an agent of the Crisis Empire, tasked with executing the "Crisis Youth Plan," a scheme designed to brainwash children who idolize heroes and turn them into operatives for the evil organization. To accomplish this, Barunborun adopts a human disguise, transforming into a masked, all-around athlete known as Great Mask. In this persona, he challenges and defeats top athletes from various sports, including baseball, track and field, soccer, and tennis, thereby earning the admiration of young fans. He then uses his hypnotic powers to place these children under his control, adding them to his personal guard. One of his targets is a world champion professional boxer named Sawada, whose young fan, Daisuke, is subsequently brainwashed.
When the boxer Sawada challenges Great Mask to a rematch, Barunborun finds himself unexpectedly overpowered, as Sawada is now fighting with superhuman strength. It is then revealed that Kamen Rider BLACK RX, in his Biorider form, had merged with Sawada after receiving the boxer's permission, using his cellular fusion ability to grant Sawada his power. Driven into a corner and losing the match, Barunborun abandons his disguise and reverts to his true monster form. In a desperate attempt to hinder the Rider, he takes the young boy Daisuke hostage. However, this plan fails when Kamen Rider BLACK RX coordinates with his motorcycle, Acrobatter, to knock Barunborun down and free the child. With the hostage situation resolved, Barunborun is swiftly defeated. He is first struck by the RX Kick and then destroyed by the Revolcane, a sword-like weapon, in an attack known as the Revolcrash.
