Description
Comandante Bosgan, also known as Naval Commander Bosgun, is a fictional character from the Japanese superhero franchise Kamen Rider BLACK RX. He serves as a primary antagonist and a high-ranking officer within the Crisis Empire, an alien force that seeks to conquer Earth. His specific title is Naval Commander, and he is one of the four main commanders serving under General Jark. Within the empire's hierarchy, Bosgan is placed in charge of the Man-Beast or Mutant unit, a division composed of strange demon soldiers and monstrous warriors.
Bosgan is defined by a distinct personality that blends aristocratic pride with a treacherous ambition. As a pure-blooded Crisisian noble, he takes great pride in his heritage and holds his fellow commanders in contempt; he looks down on Captain Gedorian for not being a true Crisisian and despises Captain Gatezone for being a robot. This arrogance fuels his secret desire to usurp General Jark and claim the position of Supreme Commander for himself. However, he is also depicted as a proud warrior who prefers direct and honorable combat against his enemy, Kamen Rider BLACK RX, occasionally demonstrating a knightly demeanor in contrast to his otherwise unscrupulous nature. For instance, he refuses to allow the powerful warrior Gran Zairus to interfere in his final duel with RX, wanting a one-on-one confrontation to prove his superiority.
Bosgan’s role in the story is that of a recurring field commander. He frequently leads attacks against the protagonist, Kotaro Minami, often engaging him in sword fights. His initial motivation is largely self-serving, seeking personal glory and the downfall of his superior, General Jark. He once conspired to take over the empire, but his treachery was discovered by General Jark, who personally destroyed one of Bosgan’s special swords as punishment for his failure and betrayal. After this humiliation and the arrival of Inspector Dasmader from the Crisis Emperor, Bosgan abandons his schemes and swears loyalty to General Jark. His relationship with his direct superior, General Jark, is therefore complex, shifting from secret rivalry to reluctant subservience. He has a particularly adversarial relationship with Kamen Rider BLACK RX, whom he views as both a target and a worthy opponent.
Throughout the series, Bosgan remains a static character in terms of alignment, but his tactics and motivations evolve. He begins as a scheming nobleman but is forced to become a loyal soldier after his failed coup. In his final appearance, he seeks to restore his honor through a decisive duel. He meets his end in a climactic sword fight with Kamen Rider BLACK RX. Despite fighting fiercely and even stabbing RX with his dagger, Bosgan is ultimately stabbed through the abdomen with the Revolcane, the Rider’s sword. Even in death, he demonstrates his intense pride, refusing to fall to his knees as he explodes.
In terms of abilities, Bosgan is renowned as one of the finest swordsmen in the monster world. He is highly skilled in dual-wielding techniques, typically fighting with a long sword and a short dagger simultaneously. He also possesses a specialized weapon known as the Demon Lightning Sword, a jagged, electromagnetic blade created by Crisis scientists that was powerful enough to pierce the armor of Kamen Rider BLACK RX’s Roborider form. His physical appearance is notable for a small seal or visor on his forehead, from which he is said to speak.
