Description
Anmonight-Kaijin, also known as the Ammonite Mutant, is a monster created by the secret society Gorgom in the television series Kamen Rider BLACK. This kaijin is distinguished by its unique biological structure, possessing two separate brains. One brain governs telekinetic power, while the other controls fighting instinct and aggression. Physically, the monster uses the tentacles extending from its arms as a primary weapon and is capable of powerful headbutts when its combat brain is dominant.

The creature's background is rooted in the ancient, extinct ammonite, and its initial purpose was to carry out Gorgom's plans by attacking humans. The character's most defining and unusual story moment begins when, during a battle with Kamen Rider BLACK, its telekinetic head is severed from its body. The main body, now operating solely on its fighting brain, wanders in search of its lost part, while the detached head shrinks and is found by a young boy named Shigeru. Shigeru, who is grieving the death of his pet dog, names the small, helpless creature Marumo.

In this separated state, a new and distinct personality emerges. As Marumo, the Ammonite Mutant is no longer a mindless agent of Gorgom but a gentle and loyal being. It uses its remaining psychic powers to befriend Shigeru, even summoning food for him and seemingly attempting to resurrect his dead pet as a gift, though this act would cost Marumo its own life. This relationship reveals the creature's capacity for kindness and gratitude, forming a deep emotional bond with the boy. The main body, however, continues its relentless pursuit, forcing a confrontation. The situation is exploited by the high priest Bilgenia, who captures Shigeru and uses the boy to reunite the monster's two brains, restoring it to its full, hostile form for a final battle against Kamen Rider BLACK.

The Ammonite Mutant's key relationships are therefore twofold. It is a pawn of the Gorgom organization, particularly the high priest Bilgenia, who manipulates it for his own purposes. More significantly, its relationship with the boy Shigeru is central to its narrative. While the complete monster is an enemy of Kamen Rider BLACK, the Marumo persona becomes an innocent friend to Shigeru, creating a tragic conflict.

In terms of development, the creature undergoes a profound transformation from a standard, fearsome monster into a sympathetic figure through its separation and bond with a child. Its death is notable for its pathos. After being destroyed by Kamen Rider BLACK's Rider Kick and Punch, the monster explodes, but the Marumo head survives for a moment. It glows faintly before disappearing in front of a weeping Shigeru, a visual representation of its sacrifice and friendship, leaving a lasting impact on both the boy and the series protagonist, Kotaro Minami. The creature notably appears again later as one of several phantom mutants serving the Dogfish Mutant in the film Kamen Rider Black: Terrifying! The Phantom House of Devil Pass.

The Ammonite Mutant's abilities are strictly tied to its two brains. When intact, it can manipulate objects with its mind. If the telekinetic head is removed, the combat brain activates, increasing its physical aggression and power, but it loses its psychic abilities until the head is reattached. This unique weakness and strength define its combat style and drive its entire storyline.
