Description
Mogura Beastman, also known as the Mole Beastman, is a mole-like monster from the 1974 tokusatsu series Kamen Rider Amazon. He originally served the evil organization Gedon and was sent to eliminate the protagonist, Daisuke Yamamoto, who transforms into Kamen Rider Amazon. His first mission failed due to police interference, so Gedon gave him a second chance. During this attempt, he kidnapped Masahiko Okamura, a friend of Daisuke, to lure the hero into a trap. However, Daisuke defeated him brutally, dislocating his arm and causing severe injuries. As punishment for his failure, Gedon exiled Mogura to the surface, chaining him in the open to die from sunstroke. Daisuke, feeling pity for the suffering creature, rescued him despite Mogura having been his enemy. Confused by this act of mercy, Mogura became grateful and allied himself with Daisuke, becoming one of the first monsters in the Kamen Rider franchise to switch sides and befriend a Rider.

Personality-wise, Mogura is portrayed as comedic and somewhat clumsy, often speaking with a distinctive high-pitched chant of "chu-chu." He serves as a source of lighthearted relief, yet he is also genuinely loyal and courageous once he commits to his new path. His primary motivation after his rescue is to repay Daisuke's kindness and protect his new friends, even at great personal risk. He frequently aids Amazon by using his burrowing ability to dig escape tunnels, rescue captured allies, or gather information. He is not a powerful fighter and often relies on his subterranean mobility to support the main hero.

His relationship with Daisuke is central to his character arc. Mogura looks up to Daisuke with a mix of awe and devotion, and Daisuke treats him as a trusted companion. He also interacts amicably with Masahiko and Ritsuko Okamura, though he is initially wary of humans. His development traces a path from a disposable henchman to a self-sacrificing friend. In his final appearance, during the Garanda Empire arc, Mogura volunteers to infiltrate the enemy by pretending to switch sides again, hoping to steal a sample of dangerous mold. The Mushroom Beastman, suspecting his loyalty, poisons him with lethal spores. Mogura manages to reach the doctor with the sample, but the antidote is developed too late to save him. He dies heroically, and Daisuke builds a memorial in his honor, mourning his fallen comrade.

His most notable ability is rapid underground tunneling, which he uses for both attack and evasion. He also has enhanced digging claws and a degree of resilience, though his combat strength is limited. His distinct vocalization and mole-like appearance make him instantly recognizable, and his legacy as the first kaijin in the series to become an ally has made him a memorable and beloved character among fans.
