Captain Zol, also known as Colonel Zol, is a significant antagonist from the original series. His full name is Bakarashin Iinodevitch Zol. He is portrayed as a high-ranking officer within the Shocker organization, initially serving as the leader of its Middle East branch before being transferred to the Japan branch to improve their operations against the Kamen Riders.

His background is deeply rooted in a history of real-world villainy. Born in Leipzig, Germany, Zol was a Nazi officer who served as a caretaker at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II. A gas leak from an execution ground permanently blinded his left eye, which he subsequently covered with an eyepatch. Following Germany's defeat, he became a wanted war criminal but was invited to join the fledgling Shocker organization by its Great Leader. He chose to retain his Nazi military uniform as a point of personal pride, demonstrating his unrepentant nature and nostalgia for his past.

In terms of personality, Zol is defined by a stringent, militaristic discipline paired with extreme cruelty. He is a perfectionist who frequently berates his subordinates for infractions such as wearing their uniforms improperly, believing that a slack appearance reflects a slack mind. This obsession with order, however, is coupled with a ferocious and sadistic enjoyment of killing. His motivations stem from a deep-seated hatred and a desire to bring about destruction, aiming to build Shocker's vision of a new world order through large-scale terror and efficient, military-style operations.

Within the story, Captain Zol serves as the first high-level Shocker executive to confront the hero directly, setting a template for future villains. He is responsible for orchestrating several major plots, including a scheme to kidnap and brainwash children for the Junior Shocker program and the ambitious Operation Wolf, which involved a virus designed to mutate the human population into werewolf monsters. His notable relationships include serving the Great Leader of Shocker and later Destron. He also works alongside other iconic villains, such as Doctor Shinigami, Ambassador Hell, and General Black, though his pride and ambition lead him to treat even his allies with contempt when they fail. His primary adversary is Hayato Ichimonji, the second Kamen Rider.

Zol undergoes a narrative development that sees him defeated and return. After a long campaign, he is ultimately destroyed by Kamen Rider 2, who topples him off a cliff with a Rider Punch. He is later resurrected alongside other Shocker commanders by Doctor G to serve the new organization Destron, where he participates in Operation: Japan Annihilation, a plan to cover the country in a deadly nerve gas. This second life ends when the Destron base self-destructs.

Possessing a range of notable abilities, Zol is a formidable combatant and strategist. He is a master of disguise, able to perfectly mimic another person's appearance using only makeup and a voice sample. His primary weapon is a whip, which was a gift from Adolf Hitler, capable of delivering powerful electric shocks and also serves as the trigger for his transformation. As a modified human, Zol can transform into a kaijin known as the Golden Wolf Man or Werewolf. In this form, his body gains superhuman strength and resilience, and he can fire explosive, missile-like projectiles from his fingertips.
