Description
Girira, also known as the Poison Butterfly, is a character from the original Kamen Rider television series. This entity is a kaijin, a monster created by the malevolent organization Shocker. Before his transformation, Girira was originally a butterfly collector named Kyujo Shiwa, who discovered a dangerous specimen in the Amazon known as the Demon Butterfly. Upon finding this creature, he was captured and subsequently transformed by Shocker into one of their operatives.
As a creation of Shocker, Girira is devoted to the organization's schemes for world domination. He carries out his missions with a strategic and deceptive mindset, often hiding his monstrous nature behind the appearance of his former human self. His primary motivation is to serve Shocker and execute the tasks assigned to him, which often involve terrorizing the civilian population.
In the story, Girira plays the role of a monster-of-the-week, serving as a direct adversary to the protagonist, Kamen Rider 1. While disguised as his human alias, he attempts to assassinate the hero and later becomes the executioner of the Water Poisoning Plan. This plan involves polluting the water supply of major cities using capsules filled with his deadly poison, with a hidden base located beneath his own mansion. He captures humans to serve as unwilling laborers and test subjects for his poison production.
Key to his character is his hostile relationship with Kamen Rider 1. After his operations are discovered, he takes hostages to lure the hero into a trap.
