Description
In the original Kamen Rider television series from 1971, Gamagirah is a kaijin, or monster, created by the secret terrorist organization known as Shocker. His name and design are derived from a toad, reflecting his amphibian nature and abilities. Standing approximately 196 centimeters tall and weighing 88 kilograms, he is a hulking figure with the rough, bumpy skin characteristic of a toad.

As a creature of Shocker, Gamagirah serves as one of its many operation agents, dispatched to eliminate threats to the organization. His background is that of a modified human, transformed into a toad monster to carry out Shocker's will. His primary mission in his debut was to silence anyone who had uncovered Shocker's secrets. Specifically, he was sent after a research director and his daughter, as well as a hiker who had witnessed the face of Shocker's Great Leader, demonstrating his role as an enforcer and assassin for the organization. His personality is not explored in great depth, but his actions depict him as a brutal and efficient operative, willing to harm innocents and destroy property to achieve his goals. He shows cunning in his methods, such as kidnapping a girl to lure out his targets, and a ruthless dedication to his mission, including destroying incriminating documents with his own hands.

Gamagirah's role in the story is that of a direct antagonist to the hero, Kamen Rider. He is a significant threat in the episode, tasked with recovering sensitive information and preventing the Rider from learning of Shocker's larger plan to split the Japanese archipelago with a nuclear bomb. His story arc involves him attacking a research institute, kidnapping a young woman, and eventually attempting to escape with the nuclear device in a small airplane. His key relationship is with the protagonists, primarily Kamen Rider #2, who ultimately destroys him. While he reports to Shocker and works alongside other monsters and Shocker combatmen, no specific individual relationships with other villains are detailed.

In terms of development, Gamagirah is a straightforward villain who does not undergo a personal transformation or redemption. His narrative function is to be a powerful obstacle for the hero. After his initial defeat, he makes a cameo appearance as part of a revived monster army in the film Kamen Rider vs. Shocker, but he does not play an active role in the fighting. This return serves more as a visual callback to past adversaries rather than a development of his own character.

Gamagirah possesses several notable abilities befitting a toad-based monster. He has tremendous physical strength, enough to bend iron bars as if they were made of candy, and the powerful jumping legs of a frog. His most distinctive weapon is a chain and sickle, which he wields skillfully in combat. From the base of the horns on his head, he can emit a red neuro-gas that causes humans to faint, lose portions of their memory, or even go mad and die. He also has the inexplicable ability to set documents on fire simply by touching them, suggesting some form of pyrotechnic capability in his fingertips. His physical weak point is said to be his soft underbelly. Despite his powers, he is ultimately defeated by Kamen Rider #2's signature Rider Kick, dying in an explosion after his escape plane is destroyed.
