Description
Kamakiri-Kid is a kaijin, or monster, from the original 1971 Kamen Rider television series and the subsequent film Kamen Rider vs. Ambassador Hell. He is a cicada insect-type (Kamikirimushi) kaijin created by the evil organization Shocker, with his origins traced to the Fuji Jukai forest. Standing at 205 centimeters tall and weighing 71 kilograms, his design incorporates elements of a beetle and his vocalization is a distinct "Kiirii".
In terms of personality, Kamakiri-Kid is portrayed as a dedicated warrior whose very purpose is the destruction of Kamen Rider. He is cunning and duplicitous, willing to use deception to achieve his goals. A key example of this is when he disguises himself as a man named Kato to infiltrate and gain the trust of the heroes. Despite his loyalty to Shocker, he shows a ruthless streak, even towards his own allies, as demonstrated when he disposes of the cockroach kaijin Gokiburi Otoko for his perceived weakness, calling him a fool for nearly revealing their plans.
Kamakiri-Kid's motivations are intrinsically tied to his role as a Shocker operative. He is driven by the mission to eliminate the Kamen Riders who threaten the organization's ambitions. In his first appearance in episode 66, his primary objective is to gather human sacrifices for Shocker's "Demon Festival," a ritual to revive an army of fallen monsters. He actively works to capture Rider's allies to serve as these sacrifices. In the movie, his mission evolves to include the protection of Shocker's secret weapon, the Super Destruction Light Device, at their Mount Fuji fortress.
His role in the story is that of a formidable and direct combatant. In the television series, after successfully aiding in the abduction of key characters, he participates in the final battle against Kamen Rider. Despite his efforts, including the use of his various weapons, he is ultimately defeated by a Rider Kirimomi Shoot, a spinning kick that exploits his weak point, his legs, leading to his explosion and death. He reappears in the movie as a more powerful version of himself, tasked with defending the Shocker stronghold. He proves to be a more challenging opponent, capable of withstanding some of Rider's attacks, but is ultimately killed by a Rider Kick after his left antenna, another weak point, is broken off by a Flying Rider Punch.
Key relationships for Kamakiri-Kid include his direct service under Ambassador Hell, the Shocker executive who commands him during the Demon Festival. He also fought alongside a cohort of other "revived" kaijin, including Reborn Zanjiou and Reborn Jaguarman, though his treatment of Gokiburi Otoko shows that Shocker's internal alliances are based on utility rather than camaraderie. His primary and defining relationship is as an adversary to Kamen Rider, with his entire existence focused on this conflict.
Regarding development, Kamakiri-Kid appears in two distinct narratives. In the television episode, he is a cunning strategist who uses disguise and trickery. By the time of the movie, his abilities are shown to have evolved; he gains a laser beam weapon fired from his antennae, a feature not present in his television appearance. This makes him a more physically imposing threat, capable of using long-range attacks to overwhelm his enemy.
His notable abilities are diverse. His primary weapons are a paralyzing gas and a stream of fire both emitted from his mouth, along with a powerful scissor-like claw on his left hand used for melee combat. He is also capable of transforming his appearance to perfectly mimic another person, such as the innocent fisherman Kato, to carry out his deceptive missions. In the film, Kamen Rider vs. Ambassador Hell, his abilities are enhanced to include firing destructive laser beams from his antennae. Despite these powers, he has specific weak points: his legs are particularly vulnerable to attack, and in his upgraded form, his antennae are also a critical weakness.
