Description
Gou Kiryuu was originally a member of BOARD, the organization dedicated to sealing the Undead. He was initially chosen to be the user of the Garren system, but his incompatibility with its power led to a critical injury that resulted in the loss of his hand. This incident forced him to quit BOARD, and he became consumed by bitterness over his inability to become a Kamen Rider.
Following his departure, Kiryuu developed a severely warped sense of justice. He equipped himself with a prosthetic right arm that could deliver electric shocks and became a merciless vigilante, executing petty criminals without remorse. His former colleagues, including Sakuya Tachibana and Shiori Hirose, remembered him as a righteous person, but the accident twisted his personality entirely. His deep-seated jealousy and contempt grew, particularly toward Tachibana, who succeeded him as the user of the Garren system. Kiryuu believed Tachibana was unworthy of being a Kamen Rider.
Kiryuu's motivation became centered on power and revenge. His declining sanity and dark heart attracted the attention of the Spider Undead, who saw him as a suitable vessel for the Battle Fight. Kiryuu seized the Leangle buckle, transforming into Kamen Rider Leangle. Drunk on this power, he abandoned any pretense of justice, declaring that power was the only thing that mattered. He then proceeded to attack innocents and deliberately provoked Kazuma Kenzaki and Sakuya Tachibana, seeking to murder them to demonstrate his strength.
In the story, Kiryuu serves as a tragic antagonist who briefly holds the power of Kamen Rider Leangle. His role directly challenges Tachibana, forcing his former junior to confront his own reluctance and fear as a Rider. The key relationship in his arc is with Sakuya Tachibana. Once senior and junior at BOARD, they became bitter enemies due to Kiryuu's jealousy and Tachibana's perceived weakness. It is Tachibana who ultimately defeats Kiryuu in battle, allowing him to regain his sanity.
Kiryuu's development concludes with his death. After being defeated by Garren, the Spider Undead abandoned him, deeming him useless, and manipulated Mutsuki Kamijo into finishing him off. Fatally wounded by controlled Undead, Kiryuu was discovered by Kenzaki and Tachibana. In his final moments, his sanity fully restored, he reconciled with a grieving Tachibana. He offered his last words of advice, telling Tachibana that he was too serious and needed to become more idiotic. He then admitted his innermost desire, confessing that he had always wanted to become a Kamen Rider, before passing away in peace.
As Kamen Rider Leangle, Kiryuu possessed significant abilities. The transformation, achieved using the Leangle Buckle and the Change Spider Rouze Card, fused the user with the Spider Undead's DNA. In this form, his base parameters for punching and kicking power were higher than those of Blade and Garren, compensating for his inability to assume other forms. He was equipped with the Leangle Rouzer as his personal weapon and could perform a variety of special attacks using different Rouze Cards, including powerful techniques like Blizzard Crush and Blizzard Venom.
