Description
Tetsuya Azuma is the human identity of the superhero known as Casshern. He is the son of the brilliant scientist Dr. Kotaro Azuma, who created advanced robots known as androids or Neoroids intended to serve and help humanity. The first of these creations, BK-1, was struck by lightning, which caused it to rebel and rename itself Buraiking Boss, also known as Black King Boss. The renegade robot used logic to conclude that humanity was a threat to the Earth and built a powerful robot army to conquer or exterminate the human race.
In the wake of this devastating betrayal, Tetsuya willingly sacrificed his normal human existence to gain the power needed to stop the robot army. He underwent a process that merged his human consciousness with an invincible android or cyborg body, becoming the neoroider known as Casshern. This transformation stripped him of certain human aspects, effectively making him a man-made being with a human soul. His motivations are deeply rooted in a sense of responsibility and justice, driven by a desire to defeat the rampaging robots and atone for the catastrophic failure of his father's creations.
In his role as the story's central hero, Casshern fights as a lone warrior against Buraiking Boss and his android forces, with the goal of liberating the world from their tyrannical rule. He is typically aided by Friender, a loyal robotic dog that was once his faithful pet, Lucky. After Lucky was killed, its data was used to revive it as Friender, who can transform into various combat vehicles like a jet, tank, or motorcycle and breathe flames to support Casshern in battle. Another key ally is Luna Kozuki, a young woman who was a childhood friend of Tetsuya. She fights alongside Casshern, often using a powerful electromagnetic gun created by her father to destroy robots.
