Live action TV
Description
Masao Ushiku appears exclusively in the 2004 live‑action film adaptation of Devilman, a character created for that version and not present in the original manga or anime. He is a teenage boy, slightly chubby, with brown eyes and a hairstyle in which his hair is combed back into a mullet with coloured braids woven into it. Early in the story, Ushiku is one of the individuals who bullies and victimizes the protagonist, Akira Fudo. His behavior shifts when Ryo Asuka physically assaults him; after that encounter, Ushiku seeks out Akira, begs for his forgiveness, and subsequently forms a friendship with him. This change marks his primary role in the narrative as a minor supporting character who initially stands in opposition to Akira but later shows remorse and aligns with him. His personality is suggested by this arc: he starts as an aggressor within the social dynamics of the school setting, but he is also capable of recognizing his mistakes and humbling himself to make amends. His motivation is not elaborately explained, but his actions indicate a desire to correct his earlier cruelty and to establish a connection with Akira after experiencing Ryo’s harshness. Ushiku does not possess any supernatural abilities or combat skills; he is an ordinary human who does not merge with a demon or take part in the central battles. His development is confined to this single turn from antagonist to friend, and he disappears from the story after that point. His key relationship is with Akira, whom he first antagonizes and later befriends, and his encounter with Ryo serves as the catalyst for his change. Ushiku remains a minor figure whose significance lies in illustrating the theme of redemption on a human scale within the film’s larger demonic conflict.
