Description
Miko, known fully as Miki Kuroda in the 2018 anime adaptation Devilman Crybaby, is a supporting character who first appears as a high school student at Kamigaku High School. She is a member of the running track team alongside Akira Fudo and Miki Makimura, and is also a childhood friend of Miki Makimura. In terms of background, Miko is presented as an ordinary teenage girl who becomes caught in the escalating conflict between humans and demons. Her personality is initially unremarkable, though she harbors feelings of jealousy toward her more popular and accomplished teammate Miki Makimura. This envy ultimately becomes the catalyst for her transformation: when demons begin to possess humans, Miko is forcibly merged with a demon due to her negative emotions, yet she manages to retain her human consciousness, becoming a Devilman. Unlike some other Devilmen, she cannot revert to a fully human form and remains permanently in her demonic guise, a monstrous shape that can release acid from orifices on her chest and crotch. Her role in the story is that of a tragic figure who fights alongside Akira and other Devilmen against the demonic invasion. However, in the final stages of the series, she is captured and subjected to experimentation by fearful humans, a fate that underscores the story's themes of paranoia and persecution. Key relationships include her friendship with Miki Makimura—strained by jealousy but still present—and her alliance with Akira Fudo as a fellow Devilman. Her development is limited but significant: she progresses from a jealous peer to a powerful but doomed fighter, ultimately becoming a victim of the very humanity she tried to protect. Her notable abilities are tied to her demonic fusion: the capacity to secrete corrosive acid from her body, presumably as a weapon in battle. Miko's arc reflects the series' grim exploration of how fear and resentment can transform people, both literally and metaphorically.
