Description
Kimie Hanada is a supporting character in the anime Crying Freeman, introduced as the wife of Ryuji Hanada, a high-ranking yakuza enforcer within the Hakushin Society. She is described as the most powerful woman in the Hakushin hierarchy, wielding considerable influence through her position and her relationship with her husband. Kimie is initially presented as an antagonist who participates in a plot to eliminate the protagonist, Yo Hinomura, also known as Crying Freeman. Her role in this scheme involves attempting to seduce Freeman as a means to get close to him, with the ultimate goal of killing him and replacing him with a look-alike. However, this plan takes an unexpected turn when she genuinely falls in love with Freeman, leading her to betray her original accomplices and side with the 108 Dragons, the Chinese mafia organization that Freeman serves. After this shift in allegiance, Kimie leaves Japan and joins Freeman within the ranks of the 108 Dragons, becoming a member of the Eight Dragons, the organization's inner circle. As the wife of Freeman, who embodies the dragon symbol, she receives a tattoo of a tiger, which she designs herself, reflecting her background as a painter. Her motivations evolve from loyalty to the yakuza and personal ambition to a deep romantic commitment to Freeman, driving her to abandon her former life and alliances. In terms of character development, Kimie transforms from a calculating and powerful figure within the yakuza underworld into a devoted partner who fights alongside Freeman, integrating into the 108 Dragons as both a member and his wife. Her key relationships include her husband Ryuji Hanada, whom she ultimately leaves, and Yo Hinomura, whose connection with her fundamentally changes her path. Notable abilities include her influence within the Hakushin Society, her strategic cunning, and her skill as a painter, which she uses to design her own tattoo.
