Live action TV
Description
Marcus Zoanoid is a character who appears in the live-action film based on the Guyver franchise. He is introduced as Marcus Edwards, the lead archaeologist at a remote dig site in Utah. At the start of the story, he appears to be an ordinary scientist overseeing the excavation of an ancient alien ship. He is the father of Cori Edwards, a young woman who becomes involved with the protagonist Sean Barker. Beneath this professional exterior, Marcus is secretly a Zoanoid, a bio‑engineered humanoid creature created by the Cronos Corporation.

Marcus’s primary motivation is the protection of his daughter, Cori. This protective instinct drives his actions throughout the film. He is not a willing servant of Cronos; instead, his loyalty lies with his family. When Cori is captured by the Cronos agents Volker and Monk, Marcus transforms into his Zoanoid form and attacks the jeep transporting her, fighting fiercely against the two other Zoanoids. Although he is eventually overwhelmed, his intervention allows Sean to arrive and rescue Cori. Sean, as the Guyver, kills Volker and Monk but spares Marcus after Cori pleads for his life. This moment establishes a grudging alliance between Marcus and Sean.

Later, when the Cronos commander Arlen Crane merges with a damaged Guyver unit to become the powerful Guyver‑Zoanoid, Marcus again steps in to protect his daughter. He engages Crane in battle, buying time for Sean and Cori. Despite his courage, Marcus is outmatched and killed in the fight. His death serves as a catalyst for the final confrontation, and it underscores the personal cost of the conflict between the Guyver and Cronos.

Marcus’s personality is marked by a quiet determination and a deep sense of paternal duty. He is not a talkative character; his actions speak louder than words. He is willing to sacrifice himself for Cori, and he shows no hesitation when endangered. He is also notably not vindictive—after Sean spares him, Marcus does not seek revenge but rather accepts the situation.

His key relationships center on Cori, whom he loves unconditionally, and Sean, whom he initially fights but later respects. His enemy is Arlen Crane, the corrupt Cronos agent who threatens his daughter. Marcus has no significant interactions with other Cronos operatives beyond combat.

In terms of development, Marcus starts as a hidden Zoanoid leading a normal life, then is forced to reveal his true nature to save his daughter. He moves from a neutral or ambiguous figure to a clear heroic one, sacrificing his life for his family. His journey does not involve redemption from villainy, but rather the revelation of his concealed identity and his choice to use his powers for good.

Marcus’s notable abilities stem from his Zoanoid nature. In his transformed state, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, and durability, allowing him to battle other Zoanoids. He is strong enough to momentarily hold his own against multiple opponents, though he is ultimately not as powerful as the Guyver or Crane’s enhanced form. His Zoanoid form is bestial and powerful, reflecting his combat role. He does not display any unique weapons or ranged attacks, relying on physical combat.
