Live action TV
Description
The character known as Butler appears in different versions across the various adaptations of the Cutie Honey story, with each portrayal having distinct traits and narrative roles.
In the live-action film from 2004, Butler serves as the right-hand man to the antagonist Sister Jill. He is distinguished by a formal appearance, always seen in a suit with his hair combed upwards featuring a distinctive curl in the front, complemented by a long mustache. His personality is marked by a notable contradiction: he is a loyal servant who carries out Sister Jill’s every wish, yet he maintains a polite and sophisticated demeanor, even when interacting with his enemies, Cutie Honey and Natsuko Aki. He displays a particular affinity for tending to plants, a hobby that proves significant to his role in the story. Throughout the film, he acts as an aid to Sister Jill, directing Honey and Natsuko within Jill Tower. After Sister Jill is transformed into a seed, Butler is last seen collecting it, intending to nurture it into a plant, before his fate becomes unknown as the tower collapses.
In the OVA series Re Cutie Honey, Butler is also a personal servant to Sister Jill, but his origins and role are far more complex and tragic. This version is physically an exact copy of Dr. Kisaragi, the creator of both Cutie Honey and Sister Jill, taking on the appearance of a middle-aged man with graying hair and wrinkles, always dressed in a black and white tuxedo. His defining characteristic is his absolute and unquestioning loyalty to Sister Jill’s desires. However, unlike the original Dr. Kisaragi, this copy completely lacks any paternal feeling for Honey, viewing her solely as a pawn to fulfill Jill’s wish for completion. This emotional emptiness is his critical flaw. His primary motivation is to serve Jill’s goals, which culminates in him using his resemblance to Honey’s father to shock and capture her, delivering her to Sister Jill. This psychological manipulation allows Jill to use Honey’s I-System for her plans. Despite being a nearly perfect replica, Honey ultimately recognizes him as a counterfeit. When he confronts her again, she swiftly defeats him based on his earlier, heartless words, proving that he was nothing more than a copy. In this version, Butler also possesses notable abilities, including the power to hover in place and extend his arm to grasp and throw objects over a distance.
