Description
Mina's father is a minor yet pivotal character in the alternate timeline depicted in the film. A former scientist who once worked for the Smart Brain corporation, he is a human living in a world where Orphnochs have nearly driven humanity to extinction. His background as a researcher gives him unique knowledge of Orphnoch biology and technology, which he later uses in a selfless act. His primary motivation is the protection and future of his daughter, Mina, whom he raises alone in the refugee settlement known as Paradise. He exhibits a compassionate and resourceful personality, driven by concern for his child's safety in a world that has become hostile to humans. Years before the main events of the story, he discovers the protagonist Takumi Inui, badly wounded after an attack by Smart Brain's Riotrooper forces. Understanding Takumi's importance as the wielder of the Faiz Gear and a potential savior for humanity, Mina's father makes a desperate decision. Using his scientific expertise, he implants false memories into Takumi, making him believe he is a childhood friend named Takeshi who grew up with Mina. This act allows Takumi to recover and live in hiding as a humble cobbler, effectively becoming Mina's guardian and protector in the father's place. This relationship is central to his role: he deliberately positions Takumi to care for Mina after his own death, which appears to have occurred before the film's present day. His death is implied to have happened sometime after the memory implantation, as Mina is shown living alone with Takumi in a small home. His key relationships are with his daughter Mina, whom he loves deeply and wants to shield from the world's brutality, and with Takumi, whom he sees as both a means of protecting Mina and a hope for humanity. In the story, his actions function as the inciting event for Takumi's amnesiac state and his quiet life away from the resistance. His legacy is revealed when Mina explains the truth to Takumi after the protagonist regains his memories. With no combat abilities or special powers, his strength lies entirely in his intellect, foresight, and the quiet courage of a father willing to alter another man's mind to secure his daughter's future. He is a figure who acts from the past, his choices shaping the film's emotional foundation and Takumi's personal journey.
