Description
Blue Electric Eel is a Dark Robot, a mechanical monster created by the evil organization DARK to serve in its goal of world domination. Designed in the form of a serpentine aquatic creature, this robot is specifically identified by its blue coloration and electric eel motif. Blue Electric Eel appears as a primary antagonist in episodes thirty-one and thirty-two of the series, where he is assigned a critical mission by his superiors.
In terms of personality, Blue Electric Eel displays the cunning and ruthless efficiency expected of a DARK operative. He is deceptive and strategic, opting for stealth and psychological manipulation over direct confrontation when it serves his purpose. This is most clearly demonstrated by his use of a human disguise to stalk his targets and his impersonation of another character to facilitate a kidnapping. His combat style also reflects a strategic mind, as he prefers to engage enemies from a distance, using his electrical and extendable arm attacks to keep opponents at bay rather than relying on close-quarters brawling, where he is notably less effective.
The primary motivation and role of Blue Electric Eel are directly tied to the interests of DARK. He is specifically ordered by the organization's leader, Professor Gill, to eliminate a man named Tsukahara and his daughter, Kazuko. This father and daughter are targeted because they accidentally witnessed the construction of a secret DARK base, making them a liability that must be eliminated. To accomplish this, Blue Electric Eel takes on the human form of Tsukahara himself, using this disguise to lure and capture Kazuko, thereby setting a trap for her father and drawing out his true enemy, the hero Jiro, also known as Kikaider.
Throughout his mission, Blue Electric Eel interacts with several key figures. His relationship with Professor Gill is one of a subordinate to a harsh and demanding master. When Blue Electric Eel suffers damage in an early skirmish with Kikaider and is forced to retreat, Professor Gill expresses anger not over the robot's injury but because the retreat caused other DARK forces to cease their attack on the very targets the eel was meant to kill. His primary adversarial relationship is, of course, with Jiro. Their battles are defined by a unique dynamic, as Blue Electric Eel possesses the power to seriously damage Kikaider with his electrical discharges, while his extendable Accordion Arms become a critical weakness when damaged. He also has a secondary conflict with Dr. Komyoji, who unknowingly reattaches one of Blue Electric Eel's severed arms to a wounded Jiro, causing the hero to struggle as the alien appendage tries to strangle his friends.
Blue Electric Eel does undergo a form of development, though it is tied to the technological rather than emotional progression. After his initial defeat by Kikaider, Blue Electric Eel is not permanently destroyed. He is retrieved by DARK and rebuilt using a device called the All Mighty, which reconstructs and enhances him for a second confrontation with the android hero. However, this upgrade proves insufficient, and during his final battle, Kikaider destroys him with a combination of techniques, including the Spinning Attack, Giant Swing Throw, and his ultimate finishing move, the Electromagnetic End. In a later theatrical film version, a regenerated version of Blue Electric Eel reappears as a subordinate to another, more powerful Dark Robot.
The most notable abilities of Blue Electric Eel are centered on long-range combat and deception. His primary physical weapon is a pair of extendable, eel-like arms known as the Accordion Arms. These limbs can elongate to wrap around and constrict an opponent from a distance. A unique and dangerous property of these arms is that Blue Electric Eel can continue to control them even after they have been severed from his body, making them a persistent threat. However, this power is also his greatest vulnerability, as damage to the Accordion Arms causes him immense pain. Complementing his physical attacks, the antennae on his shoulders can fire powerful electric bolts capable of seriously injuring even a formidable robot like Kikaider. Finally, his ability to assume a perfect human disguise is a crucial tactical asset, allowing him to stalk his prey and create confusion among his enemies.
