Description
Motoki Furuhata is a young man who works at the Game Center Crown, a video arcade that serves as a regular meeting place for the central characters, and he also attends K.O. University. He has short blonde hair and green eyes and is usually seen in his work uniform. In the early part of the story, he is presented as an attractive and approachable older figure, which leads the protagonist to develop an initial crush on him and address him with the affectionate term Motoki-oniisan. Over time, that romantic interest fades as her attention shifts elsewhere, and Motoki settles into the role of a trusted older friend. He also becomes a brief romantic interest for another of the main characters, but this does not develop into a lasting relationship. Motoki is a close civilian friend of Mamoru Chiba, the two attending the same university, and he is perceptive enough to notice when Mamoru is struggling emotionally and offers support. He has a girlfriend named Reika, a dedicated science student whose research often takes her away, and he has a younger sister named Unazuki who is also friends with the group. His personality is characterized by friendliness and a calm, easygoing demeanor, and he frequently provides a sense of normalcy and stability for the main cast. Though he has no supernatural abilities, his role is that of a reliable confidant and an anchor of everyday life. He is sometimes used for comic relief, with moments of silliness or lighthearted embarrassment, particularly when caught off guard. Motoki’s primary motivation is to be a good friend and a dependable presence, and his development involves moving from being a figure of romantic interest to a steadfast ally whose personal relationships grow and deepen over the course of the story.
