Mayumi Osaka is the mother of Naru Osaka and the owner of the jewelry store OSA-P in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. She has short, curly orange-brown hair, similar in color to her daughter’s, and is often seen wearing a purple dress with a black central line, gold necklace, teal earrings, and white heels. She is a normal human with no supernatural abilities, serving as a tertiary character whose primary role is to be the first victim of a youma in the series. In the 1990s anime, she is initially replaced or possessed by a youma, an event that directly triggers Sailor Moon’s first confrontation with the Dark Kingdom. Although she appears only briefly in the original manga and the live-action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon series—confined to the opening act—the 1990s anime includes her in a few additional episodes. In episode 23, she shows Naru a rare silver-colored crystal, which Naru later mistakes for the Silver Crystal and steals to give to Nephrite. In episode 47, she and Naru are both attacked by the Cardian named Vampire. Her personality is not extensively explored, but she comes across as a caring mother and a hardworking businesswoman who runs her jewelry shop with dedication. Her motivations are tied to her family and her store; she wishes to protect her daughter and maintain her livelihood.
