Description
Ritsuka Uenoyama is a high school student presented as a skilled but disillusioned guitarist. His initial demeanor reads stoic and aloof, often seen slouching with hands in pockets, projecting emotional detachment. Sharp blue eyes, tousled dark hair, and a lean 175cm athletic build reinforce his serious, cool-headed presence. He dresses casually in T-shirts, hoodies, and oversized school blazers, showing indifference toward appearance.

Musically self-taught, he received a black Fender Telecaster from his father in sixth grade. He practiced intensely by ear, mastering diverse genres from classic rock to electronica. By high school, he could replicate any sound imaginable but lost his passion after playing in short-lived bands, resulting in creative burnout. His technical proficiency remained exceptional, far exceeding typical high school musicians.

A pivotal encounter occurs when he discovers Mafuyu Sato sleeping in his secluded stairway spot. Despite initial annoyance, he repairs Mafuyu’s rusted Gibson guitar strings, revealing inherent kindness beneath his irritable exterior. When an awestruck Mafuyu requests guitar lessons, Ritsuka reluctantly agrees after repeated attempts to evade him. He later invites Mafuyu to join his band with bassist Haruki Nakayama and drummer Akihiko Kaji. Mafuyu’s raw vocal talent ignites Ritsuka’s passion for music, shifting his focus from technical precision to emotionally driven composition. The band names itself "Given" in tribute to Mafuyu’s late boyfriend’s guitar.

Personality-wise, Ritsuka balances rationality with deep sensitivity. He guards his emotions carefully, struggling to articulate feelings like his growing affection for Mafuyu. Yet his actions demonstrate loyalty and protectiveness: supporting Mafuyu through grief over Yuki’s suicide, patiently guiding his musical development, and physically pulling him from traffic dangers. He values authenticity in relationships and music, often expressing care through practical help rather than words. His sister Yayoi notes his bluntness, frequently throwing clothes or objects at him during their combative but affectionate interactions.

Key relationships shape his growth. His dynamic with Mafuyu evolves from teacher-student to romantic partners, culminating in a beach confession where Mafuyu’s direct "I like you" establishes their relationship. Ritsuka battles insecurities about Mafuyu’s lingering grief for Yuki, fearing he might be a rebound, but commits fully nonetheless. With bandmate Akihiko, he shares a mentor-protégé bond, mirroring Akihiko’s gestures like head-pats and adopting his advice on emotional openness. He also forms unexpected camaraderie with Hiiragi Kashima, collaborating musically despite initial friction.

In later timelines like "Given: 10th Mix," Ritsuka matures into his late twenties. Physically, his features sharpen with a more defined jawline and composed posture, while his wardrobe shifts to tailored dark clothing, reflecting adult confidence. Emotionally, he becomes more vulnerable, openly expressing affection and insecurities. Professionally, he thrives as Given’s guitarist and primary composer, supporting other bands like syh while navigating Mafuyu’s discomfort with his collaborations. His journey concludes with high school graduation and Given’s professional debut, symbolizing fulfillment in both music and relationships.
