TV-Series
Description
Pijard, called Pisard in the original Japanese version of the series, is a villain from the first installment of the Pretty Cure franchise, Futari wa Pretty Cure. He is the first antagonist the heroines face and a member of the Dark Five, a group of elite agents serving the ruler of the Dotsuku Zone, a villainous dimension also referred to as the Dusk Zone. His mission is to seize the Prism Stones, mystical gems that his master wishes to obtain, and he is specifically entrusted with guarding the green Prism Stone, which he carries in a crystal pendant around his neck. His arrival on Earth sets the story of the heroines in motion, and it is partly through his attack on them that their ability to transform into Pretty Cure is awakened.

In his natural form, Pijard is a tall, lean figure with pale white skin, pale yellow-green eyes, and long, shaggy white hair that falls in two large locks. He wears dark crimson clothing with a white cape, large white shoulder pads marked with red chevrons, and a black sash around his waist, and his appearance is influenced by traditional kabuki theatre, particularly in the red makeup around his eyes. When operating in the human world, he adopts the disguise of a handsome young man named Ryuichi Kazama, a persona notable enough to charm even the heroines' homeroom teacher. He later returns under another human disguise as a teacher's aide in order to infiltrate the heroines' school.

Personality-wise, Pijard is arrogant, proud, and self-serving. He introduces himself with a highly formal and self-important mode of speech and initially regards the Pretty Cure with disdain, believing their strength to be beneath him. His pride is easily wounded by defeat, by the anger of his master, and by mockery from his fellow Dark Five members. He is also ruthless and dismissive of innocent people, treating the world as divided into winners and losers and feeling no sympathy for those on the losing side. While he claims to do only what is necessary, his behavior suggests that he takes genuine pleasure in cruelty, and his extravagant methods of tormenting his enemies are excessive enough that even other villains disapprove of them. Beneath this bravado, he is cowardly and dishonorable in combat, relying on teleportation, telekinesis, taking hostages, and other underhanded tactics rather than fighting fairly, and his loyalty to his master appears to stem largely from fear.

His motivation is straightforward: he wants to complete his assignment and win the favor of the Dotsuku Zone's ruler, Jaaku King, while preserving his own sense of superiority. He pursues the Prism Stones relentlessly and is willing to endanger ordinary people to do so, at one point causing widespread blackouts across the city and turning museum visitors to stone.

In the story, Pijard is the central threat of the opening episodes, and his actions force the two main characters to discover and master their new powers for the first time. He attacks them before they can transform, attempts to overwhelm them with his minions, and uses his handsome human disguise to get close to them. His most notable scheme involves hypnotizing their teacher and using her, along with their classmates, as shields within the school. When his plans fail and he is cornered, he becomes increasingly desperate and unhinged, ultimately demanding that the heroines beg for their lives and promising to spare only the one who speaks first.

His development follows the arc of a proud villain undone by his own arrogance. After he manages to defeat the heroines in a confrontation, he refuses to accept an easy victory and insists on fighting them again at full power so that he can prove his superiority. This decision proves to be his undoing, as it allows them the chance to strike back with their finishing attack, the Marble Screw. Struck while caught off guard, he is destroyed and returns to the darkness, marking the end of his role as the first foe the Pretty Cure overcome.

In terms of abilities, Pijard is a capable combatant with powers tied to wind, which are reflected in the naming of his human alias. He can teleport, move objects with his mind, and fire energy attacks, and he commands hordes of Zakenna, shadowy minions that can possess objects and people to attack his targets. He is also skilled at manipulating and deceiving others, capable of hypnotism, and able to change his appearance to move freely among humans. His green Prism Stone pendant is both his badge of office and the source of much of his operational value to his master, as recovering the stones is the whole purpose of his mission.
