Description
Locus, often called the Moonlight Knight, is an Apostle and a high-ranking commander in the reborn Band of the Hawk under Griffith. His personal history before his transformation remains largely mysterious, but he possessed exceptional martial talent that drew Griffith’s attention even before he became an Apostle. The circumstances of his transformation are not explicitly detailed, but rather than arising from desperate desire or trauma, it appears to have come from ideological commitment to a cause beyond personal ambition. His Apostle form is uniquely suited to chivalric warfare: rather than appearing grotesquely corrupted, he retains a noble appearance, riding a massive supernatural horse and wielding a lance that glows with ethereal light, especially in darkness.

In personality, Locus is stoic, composed, and highly self-controlled. He possesses a sense of logic and wisdom rare among Apostles. He is governed by a code of military honor, conducting himself with dignity in and out of battle. He respects worthy opponents and does not indulge in the gratuitous carnage that many other Apostles enjoy. This chivalrous bearing makes him simultaneously more dangerous and more tragic than purely malevolent antagonists, as his nobility is genuine even though the cause he serves is built on corrupted foundations.

Locus’s motivations stem from a sincere ideological conviction in Griffith’s vision of a unified world order. He genuinely believes that Griffith’s actions benefit the world and sees his service as righteous. This ideological commitment sets him apart from Apostles driven solely by power hunger or demonic indulgence. He follows Griffith out of authentic loyalty and admiration, not mere servitude. This conviction makes him a particularly insidious figure because his belief is unwavering and his actions are consistent with a coherent philosophy, lending credibility to Griffith’s rule.

Within the story, Locus serves as the leader of the demon lancer squad and one of the primary military commanders of Griffith’s forces. He is a key figure in the establishment and defense of Falconia. He often represents the aristocratic, military dimension of Griffith’s new order, and he is the only Apostle who accompanies Griffith to formal or high social occasions. His role is to enforce Griffith’s will through martial excellence and strategic command.

In terms of key relationships, Locus shares a bond of genuine admiration and devotion with Griffith. He speaks of him with respect and views him as a visionary leader. Among other Apostles, he stands alongside Zodd, Grunbeld, Irvine, and Rakshas as one of the elite commanders. Their interactions are professional, and Locus’s calm demeanor contrasts with the more volatile personalities of some of his peers.

Locus shows little personal development across the narrative; his role remains consistent as a steadfast champion of Griffith’s cause. However, his presence deepens the thematic complexity of the story, raising questions about the coexistence of honor and nobility with service to a demonic authority.

Locus’s notable abilities center on unmatched lance technique and his Apostle transformation. His lance work is extraordinarily refined, economical, and lethal, capable of piercing armor and supernatural defenses. In his Apostle form, he merges with his mount to become a centaur-like creature of steel, gaining enhanced speed, agility, strength, and durability. He has been shown to survive intense battles, including confrontations with powerful entities such as Emperor Ganishka. His lance is also said to bend or home in on targets, allowing him to impale multiple foes in a single thrust. His supernatural horse is both intelligent and fierce, acting as an extension of his combat capabilities. As an Apostle, he possesses enhanced physical attributes that make him a formidable opponent even against warriors of Guts’s caliber.
