TV-Series
Description
Inukai is a twenty-one-year-old witch who works as a fortune teller. She is a close friend of Akane Kowata, the older sister of the series' protagonist, Makoto.

Inukai’s most distinctive feature is her appearance, which is not her natural one. Due to a magical mishap, she has been transformed into a humanoid dog during daylight hours. This form grants her furry, dog-like ears, a canine nose, and a tail. The transformation occurred after she, while heavily intoxicated during a night of drinking with Akane, ate a batch of experimental magical chocolates designed to turn humans into animals. She had been explicitly warned about the chocolates' effects beforehand, which makes her current predicament largely self-inflicted. At night, the spell wears off and she reverts to her original human form, which is noted to be quite attractive.

Inukai has a personality that balances being generally amiable with a quick temper. She is prone to getting aggravated and can be seen yelling or getting flustered, particularly when embarrassed about her canine features. A prime example of this is her explosive reaction to being complimented as an Akita beauty, a pun on her dog-like state and her name, which contains the Japanese word for dog, inu. She also displays a degree of insecurity about her unusual condition, initially hiding her features under a large cloak when in public.

Her primary motivation throughout her introduction is to find a way to reverse her transformation and return to being fully human. She decides to stay in the town where the accident happened specifically to wait for Makoto to arrive, hoping that the younger witch can help her get in contact with the flighty and hard-to-reach Akane. Her ultimate goal is to have Akane undo the spell.

Inukai serves as a supporting character whose situation introduces a key magical conflict and deepens the viewer's understanding of the established witches. Her relationship with Akane is central to her backstory; while she is clearly frustrated with her friend's carelessness, the nature of their friendship suggests this is not an uncommon occurrence. She forms a significant relationship with Makoto, whom she approaches for assistance, and also interacts with Kei and Chinatsu Kuramoto, Makoto's cousins. Chinatsu, in particular, is fascinated by Inukai's dog ears, much to the witch's embarrassment.

Over the course of her appearances, Inukai shows a degree of development. While initially desperate to reverse the spell, she eventually learns that the transformation is temporary and will wear off on its own, leading her to a more patient, if still resigned, acceptance of her situation. Her role expands beyond being merely a victim of a curse; she is also a skilled practitioner of her craft. Her notable ability is fortune telling, which she performs using various old-fashioned methods, including divination with stones and a formal fortune-telling circle. Her magic has a unique charm, and she is a capable enough witch to be friends with an elder witch like Akane.
