Description
Aki Sasada is a character who appears in the flashback narrative focusing on the youth of Taishi Fura. She is introduced as a childhood friend of both Taishi Fura and Ryou, with the three having grown up together. During her high school years, Aki is depicted as a delinquent who rarely attends school, preferring instead to spend her time on the streets with a gang of bikers, often engaging in pursuits with the police. She is also identified as Ryou's girlfriend at this time.

In terms of her personality, Aki has an outgoing and fun-loving nature, always seeking enjoyment and frolic. However, this carefree attitude comes at the expense of her academics and responsibilities. A significant turning point in her life occurs during a night out riding motorcycles with her friends, when the group is attacked by a ghoul known as Lantern. The attack is devastating; two unnamed friends are killed, Aki herself is assaulted by the ghoul, and she loses her right eye in the encounter. Her boyfriend, Ryou, sacrifices his life to save Fura during the same incident.

This traumatic event profoundly changes Aki's outlook. While recovering in the hospital, she expresses deep regret for her past behavior, viewing her injury and Ryou's death as a form of punishment for her previous gallivanting and carelessness. She resolves to change her ways and make amends for her delinquent past.

Her key relationships are central to her story. Her bond with her boyfriend Ryou is tragically cut short by his death. Her relationship with Taishi Fura, another childhood friend, endures beyond the incident. In the years following the attack, Aki eventually marries Fura. As an adult, she is shown to have a far more settled personality. The couple moves to the 7th Ward after Fura is given a command there, and approximately one year before the main events of Tokyo Ghoul, they have a daughter named Natsu. As a wife and mother, her more mature nature is evident, as it is mentioned she disapproves of her husband smoking at home because of their young child.

Regarding her development, Aki undergoes a stark transformation from a reckless, school-avoiding delinquent to a responsible adult who values stability and family. Her role in the story is primarily that of a catalyst and a figure from Fura's past, representing the personal stakes and losses caused by ghoul attacks, while also showing how survivors can rebuild their lives. There is no information available regarding any notable combat or supernatural abilities, as she is portrayed as a normal human civilian.
