Description
Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld is a central character in the anime and light novel series The Asterisk War. She is a student at Seidoukan Academy and is known as the First Princess of Lieseltania, a small European nation. Her full name is Julis-Alexia Marie Florentzia Renate von Riessfeld, reflecting her royal lineage. She stands at 162 centimeters tall and is 17 years old.

In terms of appearance, Julis is a young woman with a striking and elegant look, often compared to a rose. She has long, bright pink hair and cyan eyes. Her typical attire consists of the Seidoukan Academy uniform, which includes a white dress and jacket, paired with black over-the-knee boots and two key-shaped hairpieces on the sides of her head.

Julis possesses a complex and multi-layered personality. On the surface, she comes across as elegant and proud but also hot-headed, stubborn, and cold toward people she does not know. She is often described as a tsundere, a character archetype that is initially distant and hostile before revealing a warmer, kinder side. Beneath this unfriendly facade, Julis is fundamentally honorable, faithful, and deeply loyal to those she considers friends. She has a strong sense of justice and is driven by a desire to protect the people she cares about, fearing disappointment and rejection. She dislikes relying on others and prefers to solve problems through her own efforts, a trait that speaks to her fierce independence.

Her primary motivation stems from her position as a princess of Lieseltania, a nation that is effectively a puppet state of powerful integrated corporate conglomerates. This political reality has led to severe inequality, where the wealthy elite oppress the general populace. Julis is infuriated by this system and is determined to change her country's situation. A specific catalyst for her actions is a childhood connection to an orphanage. She befriended the children there, including a girl named Ophelia Landlufen, who was later taken as a sacrificial pawn by the corporations. To prevent the orphanage from being shut down due to financial hardship, Julis enters the Festa tournaments to win the prize money.

Within the story, Julis is a top-ranked student at Seidoukan Academy, holding the fifth position among its elite fighters known as the "Seidoukan Twelve". She is initially rude and suspicious of the protagonist, Ayato Amagiri, after an awkward first encounter where he accidentally walks in on her changing while trying to return her handkerchief. She challenges him to a duel, which establishes the rocky start to their relationship. However, as they are forced to work together, she gradually warms up to him. She becomes his primary partner and later his main love interest. Julis ultimately decides to team up with Ayato for the Phoenix Festa, and their bond deepens as he vows to fight for her. Her other key relationships include her older brother, Jolbert, who becomes the king of Lieseltania, and Claudia Enfield, the student council president of Seidoukan Academy, whom she has known since childhood. Over the course of the series, Julis develops from a solitary and proud princess into a trustworthy teammate and a more open individual who allows herself to rely on others.

As a Genestella, a member of the generation with enhanced physical abilities, Julis is a Strega, also known as a witch. This means she can link her mana to her flesh and blood to manipulate prana, granting her special powers. Her ability is pyrokinesis, the power to generate and control flames, which earned her the nickname the "Flame Witch" or "Witch of the Resplendent Flames". Her control over fire is highly versatile; she can use it for direct attacks, create traps, form shields for defense, or even generate wings of flame on her ankles to boost her speed and enable flight. She visualizes her attacks as various species of flowers, and each of her techniques is named after one, such as Longiflorum, Amaryllis, Strelitzia, and Anemone Coronaria. In combat, she initially wields a rapier-type Lux (a magical weapon) called Aspera Spina, which translates to Thorn Crown. After this weapon is destroyed during the Phoenix Festa finals, she replaces it with a more advanced ranged guided Lux named Nova Spina, developed collaboratively by Seidoukan Academy and Allekant Industries.
