TV-Series
Description
Fan Xinglou is the student council president of the Jie Long Seventh Institute and holds the top rank within her academy. She is a girl who appears to be around nine years old, with black hair that is often styled with a portion tied up to resemble butterfly wings. Despite her youthful appearance, her manner of speaking is notably rough and mature, belying her true nature as an ancient being who has existed for over a thousand years. She is, in fact, the same person as the first and second Banyuu Tenra, a title she has inherited. Born in the year 625, she has used Senjutsu to create new bodies and transfer her consciousness into them over the centuries, allowing her to continue existing in accordance with the Stella Carta. The body she currently inhabits is that of a female child, a transformation that has reduced her physical strength to less than half of her prime, though her magical abilities have become far stronger due to the increased mana in the modern era.
Xinglou's personality is deeply self-centered and hedonistic, as she operates primarily on her own whims and what she finds interesting, often disregarding the interests of her own academy. Her primary motivation is the pursuit of strong and promising individuals, whom she refers to as delicacies to be savored. She delights in training such people, not necessarily to teach them the correct use of their power, but to observe the various flavors they bring. While she enjoys fighting, she dislikes needless conflict and bloodshed, a principle that led her to refuse an invitation to join the Golden Bough Alliance.
In the story, Xinglou serves as a powerful and enigmatic figure whose actions often drive key events. Even among the six academies, her combat ability is considered to be on a monstrous, unparalleled level. She has clashed with Helga Lindvall, known as the most powerful witch in Asterisk's history, who has since taken extreme care to avoid further entanglement with Xinglou. From early on, she takes a keen interest in the protagonist, Ayato Amagiri, and is disappointed that he does not come to study at Jie Long. Her cunning nature is shown when she attempts to recruit him through various means, and she consistently observes his progress in the Festas.
Xinglou has cultivated a large following of approximately fifty direct disciples within Jie Long, who hold many of the top ranks, including eleven of the twelve Page One positions. These disciples are broadly divided into two factions: the Wood faction, which focuses on physical combat, and the Water faction, which employs a unique Jie Long technique called Star Senjutsu. Xinglou is fully aware of the contempt the Water faction holds for the Wood faction, but she finds the resulting friction amusing and deliberately chooses not to intervene, sometimes even encouraging the conflicts. Among her most notable disciples is her first apprentice, Wu Xiaofei, whom she took in when he was a child.
Xinglou's development throughout the series is less about personal change and more about the gradual revelation of her ancient past and immense power. Her long-standing wish is to find an opponent with whom she can have a truly satisfying fight. She has lived for centuries, having once lost an arm in a fight with a family head of the Night Emit several generations prior. She is an "existence of another kind," and other characters are consistently warned not to get more involved with her than necessary. Her knowledge extends to the truth behind the Invertia, the meteor shower that reshaped the world, a secret she has hinted at in conversations with other powerful figures.
Fan Xinglou's notable abilities are vast and varied, cementing her status as a true monster of combat. Her preferred style is physical combat, and despite her small size, she can deliver kicks powerful enough to send opponents flying into walls with ease while also being able to dodge attacks effortlessly. She possesses an immense level of prana, the aura of a Genestellar, and has superb control over it, allowing her to balance it during combat to perform feats such as fighting on the surface of water, which is considered extremely difficult. She can perform advanced techniques like teleportation, referring to her method as shortening the lay of the land. She is capable of creating clones of herself without incantations or spell tags, and she can even erase the memories of others. When fighting seriously, she wields a Sage Tool called Gourensho, a set of three vajra named Tokkosho, Sankosho, and Gokosho that float around her and can be manipulated to attack at high speeds with devastating force. Xinglou can also emit an immense pressure that is enough to completely immobilize those around her, and her keen intellect allows her to accurately deduce the abilities of her opponents even when the effects are not visible.
