Description
Chiya Sakagami is a supporting character in Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara. She is a young girl of about thirteen years of age, identifiable by her short black hair and typically composed, reserved demeanor. Among her peers, she is known for her quiet nature and an almost constant expressionless face, often speaking in a flat, monotone voice that reflects her generally stoic personality.
Despite her emotionless exterior, Chiya possesses a deep well of care and a fierce protective instinct, which she reserves almost exclusively for her classmate and best friend, Yuzuka Hanami. Chiya explicitly considers Yuzuka her "most important friend," and this devotion is the primary motivator for most of her actions. She is intensely fascinated by Yuzuka's identity as a magical girl, particularly admiring her magical swimsuit outfit, a rare instance that can provoke a visible blush from the normally stoic girl. This protectiveness manifests as outright hostility towards the magical creatures Miton and Pochi; she has no qualms about physically slamming them to the ground if she perceives their behavior as threatening, annoying, or disrespectful toward Yuzuka.
Chiya's role in the story is that of Yuzuka's closest companion and guardian, serving as a bridge between Yuzuka's normal life and the world of magical girls. Significantly, Chiya possesses the inherent aptitude to become a magical girl herself and is capable of seeing and hearing creatures like Miton, who are normally invisible to ordinary people. However, a limitation in Miton's capacity prevents him from contracting with her, and thus, she cannot transform. This unfulfilled potential is a notable aspect of her character, leading to suggestions that she might one day take the place of the older magical girl, Mafuyu Shinoki, after her retirement.
Throughout the series, Chiya builds key relationships with several characters. Her bond with Yuzuka remains the central focus and deepens over time, shown through gentle gestures such as letting Yuzuka sleep on her lap or linking arms with her. She quickly befriends the younger magical girl, Daiya, whom she finds adorable. She also forms a friendship with Mafuyu Shinoki, another magical girl whom she meets and grows close to. In contrast, her interactions with Miton remain consistently antagonistic; although she understands he means well, she keeps a firm distance and prevents him from getting too familiar with Yuzuka until Yuzuka herself accepts his friendship. Regarding her abilities, while she cannot officially become a magical girl due to Miton's constraints, she has an unrefined natural talent for it, and her protective nature could be considered her most defining "ability" in the context of the story.
