Description
Gamets is a male monster antagonist from the magical world, created from a turtle by the dark wizard Dokurokushe using dark magic. He is among the primary generals serving Dokurokushe and operates under the command of the executive Yamoh. His name is derived from the Japanese word for turtle, "kame," combined with "gametsui," a word meaning greedy or persistent.
In terms of appearance, Gamets has a unique and imposing look based on his animal origin. He possesses stoic orange eyes and light blue skin, with a large, robust turtle shell on his back. He wears green armor on his head, arms, and legs, complemented by light yellow armor on his chest and stomach that resembles a turtle's belly. In his final, most powerful form, he breaks his own shell, which acts as a limiter, causing his body to grow even larger and more muscular. In this state, his hair grows longer and his armor changes shape, giving him a more fearsome and intelligent-looking appearance.
Gamets' personality is defined by a strict adherence to the warrior code of bushido. He is polite and speaks like a samurai, referring to himself as "ware". However, his philosophy is a harsh one, believing that strength is the only true justice and that the powerful have the unquestionable right to rule over the weak. He holds the power of dark magic in the highest regard as the strongest force and desires a world where it dominates everything. As a pure warrior, Gamets is obsessed with fighting strong opponents and prefers fair, direct duels over sneaky tricks or strategies, which sets him apart from other generals like Batty and Sparda. He fights without any guilt for his destructive actions, but he is not without honor, as he will challenge the Precure to open battles and grow excited when they gain new powers to test against him.
Gamets' background and role in the story begin with his debut as one of Dokurokushe's main lieutenants, created specifically as a fighting warrior. While his mission is to help collect the Linkle Stone Emerald, his true passion is battling the Precure. He is recognized as the strongest and most aggressive of the first three generals. Throughout the story, he frequently confronts Mirai Asahina and Liko Izayoi, sometimes attacking when they are unable to transform, which he misinterprets as a deliberate challenge for him to test their strength. His major arc culminates when he secretly acquires the Linkle Stone Garnet and issues a formal challenge to the Precure for a duel on a remote island. This is where he removes his shell limiter to achieve his final form, demanding the heroines use their Ruby Style so they can fight at full power. After a fierce battle, he is purified by the Precure Ruby Passionare attack, reverting to a simple turtle and accepting his defeat with contentment, acknowledging that there are other forms of strength besides raw power.
Key relationships define much of his journey. He is absolutely and unconditionally loyal to his creator and master, Dokurokushe, following all orders without question. He maintains a professional, if distant, camaraderie with his fellow generals Batty and Sparda, but distinguishes himself by his disdain for their tactical approaches in favor of direct combat. Gamets develops a deep and mutual respect for the Precure, seeing Mirai Asahina, Liko Izayoi, and later Ha-chan (Cure Felice) as worthy rivals. He gradually comes to respect Ha-chan, especially after realizing she is the same young girl who once bravely stood up to him, and he views her as a true warrior. His relationship with Orba is one of annoyance and resistance, as Gamets dislikes the way Orba tries to control him or interfere with his duels, going so far as to call him "kid".
Gamets undergoes a significant development from a ruthless enemy to a satisfied rival. Even after his initial defeat and reversion to a turtle, his fighting spirit remains strong, and he retains his extraordinary strength, once being able to punch away sharks. He is later resurrected by Sparda and Orba's magic, and upon learning of a new Emerald Precure (Cure Felice), his desire to fight is rekindled. However, after further battles and being turned back into an animal, he returns to a turtle state, living in the magic world's ocean while still harboring a persistent desire to challenge the Precure again, a goal he cannot communicate in his animal form.
Gamets has several notable abilities that make him a formidable opponent. His primary skills are his immense super strength and a spinning attack using his shell. His main weakness is that if he is flipped onto his back, he has great difficulty getting up again. In his final form, unlocked by breaking his shell limiter, he gains a tremendous boost in power, with devastating punches, stomping attacks, and greatly enhanced defense. Even after being purified, he is noted to remain incredibly powerful for a turtle, retaining a strong desire to fight.
