TV-Series
Description
The Headmaster of the magic school is a character whose youthful appearance belies an extraordinarily long life. He is seen by most as a young man with long, silvery hair, often dressed in blue robes with a green scarf, though he occasionally wears a white ensemble with a large hat and light blue cloak. In truth, this appearance is maintained through magical means, and his actual form is that of a very old man.
In terms of personality, the Headmaster is consistently gentle, wise, and deeply caring, always looking after the well-being of the students at his school. He speaks with the affectionate tone of an elderly grandfather, which adds to his warm and approachable demeanor. However, he is not without his quirks. He can be quite unpredictable, often making surprising decisions or disappearing from his office without warning, much to the confusion of the Head Teacher. Despite his vast age and experience, he is notably uninformed about recent magical phenomena, such as the appearance of the Precure and the Linkle Stones, and he prefers to let younger characters like Mirai Asahina and Liko Izayoi explore and resolve these new mysteries.
His primary motivation throughout the story is to prepare for a great future calamity. To this end, he has made the conscious decision to refrain from using his own immense magical powers, choosing instead to conserve every bit of his strength for the coming crisis. This reserve is so absolute that even his former student, Issac, has never witnessed him cast a single spell. He relies on enchanted objects for everyday magical tasks, with his closest companion being a magical crystal ball named Cathy.
The Headmaster plays a pivotal role in the story by subtly guiding the main characters. He secretly observes Mirai and Liko as they transform into Precure and actively supports their endeavors. He grants Mirai permission to attend the magic school during her spring break and offers Liko a chance at remedial lessons instead of expulsion when she breaks school rules. When the crisis he has long anticipated finally arrives in the form of a direct confrontation with the antagonist Dokurokushe, the Headmaster makes the critical decision to unleash his stored-up magical energy. This act of releasing his full power successfully defeats the threat but comes at a great cost, instantly reverting him to his true, aged form. While he is able to regain his youthful appearance by drinking a special medicinal tea, his vast magical reserves are permanently depleted.
The Headmaster's most significant relationship is with Cathy, the sentient crystal ball who acts as his trusted advisor, confidante, and friend. Cathy has been by his side for centuries, and the two share a deep bond, their fates mysteriously linked so that they age and rejuvenate in unison. He has a more complicated and amusing dynamic with the strict Head Teacher, whose pragmatic approach to school rules is often frustrated by the Headmaster's unconventional and unpredictable style. He acts as a protector and mentor to Mirai and Liko, placing his faith in their potential and encouraging their growth as magical girls.
In terms of development, the Headmaster is a static character whose great sacrifice is the culmination of his long-held plan. He moves from being a passive, mysterious observer who hoards his power to an active participant who willingly gives up that power to save others. This sacrifice reveals his true self, both in form and in his complete commitment to protecting the magical world.
Among his notable abilities is his exceptional magical power, which is implied to be immense, though it is almost never seen. He has access to powerful magical artifacts. His strongest and most definitive ability is the raw output of his accumulated magic, which is so potent that its use physically transforms him. He also possesses the knowledge to brew a medicinal tea that can temporarily restore his youthful visage, though it cannot return the power he has expended.
