Description
Gutoku Asanagi serves as a Regional Management Officer in the anime Qualidea Code. In this capacity, he is responsible for coordinating the defensive efforts of students from three Japanese cities against an enemy force known as the Unknown, and he also administers the points-based ranking system that evaluates the students' performance. He carries out these duties alongside Airi Yunami, with the two of them forming the leadership pairing that oversees the young fighters.
His outward demeanor presents as serious and stoic, with a tendency to show little emotion. This composed exterior masks a complex and deeply conflicted individual, driven by a personal history and motivations that are far from the straightforward military commander he appears to be. A pivotal revelation within the story redefines his entire character: although deeply embedded in the fight against the Unknown, Gutoku is not one of them. He is a human being who fell in love with Airi Yunami, a member of the enemy species who was disguised in human form.

In the story's later stages, Airi expresses her intention to sacrifice herself to close a dimensional gate, and after her death, her spirit visits Gutoku one final time, asking him to continue living and to take care of a young girl named Aoi Yaegaki, who is implied to be their own child. This request shapes his final development, transforming his goal from escaping with his beloved to honoring her memory by protecting the future they created.
