Description
Nio Altugle is a supporting character in Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky and originally appears in Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk as the younger sister of the protagonist Ayesha Altugle. In the earlier story, Nio was a bright young girl who helped her older sister run their family herbalist workshop. While collecting herbs one day, she mysteriously vanished; it was widely believed she had been spirited away or swallowed by ancient ruins, and a gravestone was placed where she disappeared, leaving Ayesha to believe she might be dead. By the time of Atelier Escha & Logy, which takes place roughly four years later, Nio has resurfaced as a traveling apothecary. She journeyed to the city of Colseit (also written as Corseit) in order to investigate the Unexplored Ruins, driven by a personal need to understand what happened to her and to search for her sister. During her travels, she makes a living by selling medicine and occasionally helping out in shops. Her personality is cheerful and bright, and she is described as a lively young girl who remains optimistic despite her difficult past. She has a notable ability to sense and communicate with spirits, which sets her apart as someone attuned to the mysterious forces of the Dusk world. In the story, Nio first appears when she and her traveling companion Wilbell voll Erslied happen upon Escha Malier and Logix Fiscario during a mission to purify a polluted water source. Nio treats Escha after she is poisoned by a toxic flower, and from that point she joins the group for several adventures, lending her knowledge of medicine and her spiritual sensitivity to the team. She is not a primary protagonist, but her role is significant because she provides a link between the events of the first Dusk game and the current story, and her search for Ayesha adds emotional depth to her character. Her development is largely tied to her reunion with her sister and her quest to uncover the truth behind the ruins. Her key relationships include her sister Ayesha, whom she deeply misses and is determined to find; her friend and fellow traveler Wilbell, who accompanies her; and the new acquaintances Escha and Logy, whom she assists and bonds with over the course of the story.
