Description
Kaiosama, also known as the Lord of Worlds, serves as the divine guardian responsible for the Northern Quadrant of the universe. Despite holding this lofty title, he resides on a tiny, unchanging planet with intense gravity, located at the end of the Serpent Road in the Other World. His household includes a pet monkey named Bubbles, and he has also been known to own a car. In the context of Dragon Ball Super, Kaiosama remains in a deceased state, having been killed during the events of the Cell saga when Goku teleported the self-destructing Cell to his planet to save the Earth. Even in death, he continues to perform his divine duties without any change to his status or power, though he now permanently sports a halo above his head.
In terms of personality, Kaiosama holds a rather grand and inaccurate self-perception, believing himself to be a legendary comedian. In truth, his sense of humor is widely considered poor, and his jokes often fall flat. While he enjoys simple, solitary pastimes like counting blades of grass or seeing how far he can urinate, he is also prone to vanity and frustration. His primary motivation in the series is not grand cosmic justice, but a deep-seated desire to be revived with the Dragon Balls, driven almost entirely by the embarrassment and humiliation he suffers from his halo. The other Kaios, his peers, constantly mock him for being the only one to have been killed by a subordinate, and they even planned a celebration to commemorate his demise. This ridicule hurts him far more than the practical consequences of being dead.
Kaiosama’s most significant relationship is with his pupil, Goku. It was Goku who accidentally caused his death, and it is Goku who repeatedly fails to revive him. While Kaiosama is quick to scold and complain to Goku about his halo and the destruction of his beloved planet, he still serves as a mentor and occasional training partner. The Saiyan’s habit of making careless wishes, such as reviving a tyrant like Frieza instead of his godly master, is a constant source of frustration for Kaiosama. Beyond Goku, his role in the story is often that of an observer, using his abilities to watch over his quadrant and offer commentary, though he is frequently overshadowed by higher-ranking deities.
Regarding his abilities, Kaiosama is a powerful martial arts master who developed and taught Goku two iconic techniques: the Kaioken, which multiplies the user's fighting abilities at great risk to their body, and the Spirit Bomb, also known as the Genki Dama, which gathers energy from surrounding life forms and nature to create a powerful attack. He possesses the ability to observe events on any world within his jurisdiction by using his clairvoyance, and he can communicate telepathically with individuals. Furthermore, he can act as a spiritual medium, allowing anyone who touches his shoulder to communicate with a specific person across vast distances. While his power is immense by mortal standards, within the hierarchy of Dragon Ball Super, he is often surpassed by the likes of the Supreme Kais and the Gods of Destruction. Nonetheless, his unique techniques and knowledge continue to make him a relevant, if often exasperated, figure in the celestial bureaucracy.
