TV-Series
Description
Bubbles is a monkey who resides on the small, circular planet of the North Kai, also known as King Kai. He serves as the deity's beloved pet and closest companion. Bubbles is a stout, dark brown monkey with pink paws and upward-pointing pink ears. He is well-adapted to life on the planet, which possesses gravity ten times that of Earth, a fact that plays a central role in his function as a training partner.

In terms of personality, Bubbles does not display a complex range of emotions but is portrayed as being generally calm and obedient to the orders of his master, King Kai. He appears to enjoy simple activities, such as dancing and running freely around the planet. His primary motivation is not self-driven but rather tied to his role as a resident of King Kai's planet, where he participates in the training regimen designed for warriors who come to learn from the North Kai.

Bubbles' main role in the story is as the first of two endurance tests for those who seek King Kai's tutelage. The task is deceptively simple: a trainee must catch Bubbles. However, due to the planet's immense gravity, which slows down newcomers, Bubbles can move with extraordinary speed and agility, making him nearly impossible to catch at first. Son Goku famously mistook Bubbles for King Kai himself upon first arriving on the planet, copying the monkey's movements in an awkward attempt at a formal greeting before realizing his error. It took Goku roughly forty days to adapt to the gravity and successfully catch Bubbles, marking his completion of this first phase of training. Other Z-Fighters, including Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu, also underwent the same test after their deaths during the Saiyan conflict.

Throughout the series, Bubbles' most significant relationship is undoubtedly with King Kai, with whom he lives and spends his days. He also has a recurring association with Gregory, a small, cricket-like creature who serves as King Kai's other companion in the anime adaptation. In Dragon Ball Super, after the destruction and subsequent restoration of King Kai's planet, Bubbles continues to live there peacefully. He appears in minor scenes throughout the series, such as when he provides a Senzu bean to Goku following a devastating defeat at the hands of the God of Destruction, Beerus. He also joins King Kai in observing events from their distant world.

Bubbles does not undergo significant character development, as he is a supporting animal character whose primary narrative purpose remains consistent. However, his own status changes following the Cell Games. When Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport the self-destructing Cell to King Kai's planet, the resulting explosion kills Bubbles along with King Kai and Gregory. Because he was already a resident of the heavenly realm where King Kai lives, Bubbles simply gains a halo to signify his new status as one of the deceased, continuing his life much as he did before.

Bubbles does not possess any signature energy attacks or martial arts techniques. His only notable ability is his natural speed and agility, which is exceptional not because of any special power, but because he is perfectly accustomed to moving effortlessly in an environment of ten times Earth's gravity. This adaptation makes him a formidable and elusive target for any warrior experiencing the planet's conditions for the first time.
