Description
The character known as Kaioh Shin anciano, or the Elder Kaioshin, is a deity who appears in the Dragon Ball Super anime. His background is unusual, as he is not a naturally born god. He originated from a handsome Kaioshin from fifteen generations prior to the current one, who accidentally fused with an old witch. This happened when the witch, thinking the Kaioshin's Potara earrings were beautiful, took one and put it on, not knowing the earrings would cause a permanent fusion. The result of this union is the elderly, diminutive form he possesses throughout the series.

In terms of personality, the Elder Kaioshin is a complex figure. He is characterized as a grumpy, irritable, and deeply perverted old man, often making lewd comments and being distracted by matters of the opposite sex. He frequently complains and behaves in a manner similar to the Turtle Hermit, Master Roshi. Despite these vulgar traits, he is also portrayed as incredibly wise, possessing vast knowledge of the universe and its history that commands respect from other deities. He acts as a mentor figure, though often reluctantly.

His primary motivation in Dragon Ball Super is the preservation of the universe and the maintenance of its divine order. He is deeply concerned with the actions of powerful beings like Goku and the Gods of Destruction. The Elder Kaioshin is aware that his life is linked to the God of Destruction, Beerus, and that if he dies, Beerus will also cease to exist. This connection forms a core part of his duty, as he fears the consequences of Beerus's temper and power. In the story, he often serves to provide crucial exposition and warnings to the other characters. During the Battle of Gods saga, he is among the first to sense Beerus awakening and becomes highly anxious, desperately trying to prevent Goku from provoking the destructive god, as he fears a confrontation could lead to universal destruction. He and Kibitoshin observe the battle between Goku and Beerus from the Sacred World of the Kai, and he is the one who warns them that the universe can only withstand a few more of their clashes.

The Elder Kaioshin's key relationships are defined by his status and history. His most significant relationship is with Beerus, the God of Destruction. It is revealed that Beerus was the one who sealed him inside the Z Sword over seventy-five million years ago following a petty argument. This past imprisonment explains why he is both fearful and resentful of the feline deity. He also has a relationship with Shin, the current Eastern Kaioshin, whom he guides with his ancient wisdom, though often in a condescending manner. In Dragon Ball Super, he is frequently seen with Kibitoshin, the fusion of Kibito and Shin, and the two deities often react to the battles and events unfolding across the universe together.

The character shows little to no personal development in Dragon Ball Super, remaining largely static. Having been sealed for eons and possessing millennia of experience, his personality and role are already firmly established. He continues to act as the ancient, somewhat comical but ultimately essential source of godly knowledge.

As for his notable abilities, the Elder Kaioshin is not a frontline fighter. His true power lies in his unique magical abilities. His most famous technique, which he used on Gohan in Dragon Ball Z, is the ability to unlock a person's latent potential, drawing out all of their hidden power and elevating them to a state far beyond their normal limits without the need for transformation. This is a lengthy ritual. He also possesses powerful psychic and magical abilities derived from his fusion with the witch. He can materialize objects, telepathically communicate across vast distances, and perceive events occurring in distant realms. He also has the ability to give his own life to a deceased person to bring them back to life, as he offered to do for Goku. However, he does not demonstrate significant combat-oriented techniques or physical strength in Dragon Ball Super.
