Description
In the Catalan translation of the Dragon Ball series, the character known in Japanese as Kame Sennin and in English as Master Roshi is called Follet Tortuga. This character is a venerable and ancient master of martial arts with a history that long predates the events of Dragon Ball Super. As a student of the great Master Mutaito, Follet Tortuga was present centuries ago during the battle against the demon king Piccolo, an event that claimed his master's life and instilled in him a profound understanding of the responsibility that comes with great power. He eventually became one of the most formidable fighters on Earth, earning the title of Muten Roshi, which means the Old Master of Martial Arts, and dedicated himself to passing on his knowledge to a new generation.

The character lives in a small island dwelling known as the Kame House and is often seen wearing a large turtle shell on his back, a symbol of his school's training methods, along with sunglasses and a martial arts gi. Despite his advanced age and immense wisdom, Follet Tortuga has a notorious and comedic personality flaw that defines many of his interactions: he is an incorrigible lecher. He is frequently seen reading magazines featuring women in bikinis or making inappropriate advances toward almost any attractive woman he encounters, including Bulma, Android 18, and later Chi-Chi. This behavior almost always results in immediate and violent retribution from the women in question, but he rarely, if ever, learns from these experiences. This lecherous nature is a central part of his character, contrasting sharply with his status as a revered martial arts genius.

Within the story of Dragon Ball Super, Follet Tortuga returns to a more active role after the arrival of the God of Destruction Beerus. He joins the other Z-Fighters in combating the revived Frieza and his army, demonstrating that his physical condition and fighting prowess, while far surpassed by the Saiyans, remain formidable. His role becomes more significant during the recruitment for the Tournament of Power. When Goku seeks out Tenshinhan to join the team, Follet Tortuga is accidentally hypnotized by Yurin, a rival martial artist. This hypnosis unlocks his hidden fighting potential, allowing him to push Goku further than expected in a brief sparring match, which surprises the Saiyan with his master's retained power and creativity.

In the Tournament of Power itself, Follet Tortuga has several key moments that highlight his development and unique value. He is able to eliminate Ganos, a powerful warrior from Universe 4, using the original Kamehameha technique, proving that skill and experience can still triumph over raw strength and youthful arrogance. Later, he faces two female fighters from the same universe who attempt to use seduction to defeat him. In a surprising moment of growth, it is revealed that Follet Tortuga mentally trained with his friend Puar to resist his deepest weaknesses, allowing him to overcome their charm and eliminate them from the tournament, showing that he is capable of mastering even his most ingrained flaws when the stakes are high enough. He also shows strategic selflessness by rescuing Vegeta from an attack by Frost and Magetta, and later decides to voluntarily eliminate himself from the ring to stop hindering his teammates, a choice that earns him the quiet respect of the gods and his fellow fighters.

His key relationships are central to his role. He is the revered and beloved first master to both Goku and Krillin, and he takes great pride in their growth. He often works alongside them, such as when he helps Goku train Krillin to overcome his fears by fetching herbs on a mysterious island. His relationship with his older sister, Uranai Baba, is also a long-standing part of his history. Throughout Dragon Ball Super, Follet Tortuga undergoes a subtle but important development. While never completely abandoning his perverted tendencies, he demonstrates a newfound ability to set them aside for a greater purpose, and his courage, strategic mind, and foundational importance to the martial arts world are reaffirmed. Among his notable abilities, he is most famously the creator of the Kamehameha wave, a technique that took him fifty years to perfect. He also possesses eternal youth, having drunk a mystical water and gained a Phoenix's blessing, meaning he cannot die of old age, though he can still be killed in battle. He can perform the Mafuba, a technique to seal away evil beings, and can move at incredible speeds to create afterimages, a basic technique he mastered long before his students.
