Description
Helles, also known as Heles or Jerez, is the Goddess of Destruction for Universe 2. As the only female deity to hold the title of God of Destruction among all twelve universes, her appearance is designed with an ancient Egyptian aesthetic, often compared to Cleopatra, featuring dark braided hair, green eyes, and golden ornaments. Her name continues the series tradition of naming destruction gods after alcoholic beverages, deriving from the German beer style Helles or the Spanish wine Jerez.
The defining characteristic of Helles is her absolute and unwavering devotion to beauty. Her personality is governed entirely by her aesthetic sense; she loves beautiful things and people while harboring a deep-seated hatred for anything she considers ugly. This philosophy extends to how she runs her universe, as Universe 2 is themed around love and beauty. She speaks frequently using terms like beautiful and ugly to express her approval or disgust, considering the Saiyan Son Goku to be a beautiful individual due to his personality and physique, while finding characters like Frieza to be repulsive. Her obsession is such that she believes herself to be the most beautiful being not just in her own universe, but in all universes.
As a God of Destruction, her primary role is maintaining the balance of her universe by destroying planets and beings, though she is most prominently featured during the Universe Survival Saga. In this tournament, she selects a team of warriors from Universe 2, primarily the magical girls led by Ribrianne, hoping their theme of love will prevail. Throughout the Tournament of Power, she actively cheers for her fighters, offering guidance through telepathy and becoming distressed when opponents attack them before they can complete their transforming poses, which she finds profoundly unbeautiful. When her entire team is eliminated, she accepts their erasure with dignity, stating that Universe 2 will accept its fate cleanly and beautifully until the very end.
Helles shares a vital relationship with her universe’s Supreme Kai, Pell, as their lives are linked together in a life-link. If one dies, so does the other, a mechanism designed to prevent imbalance between creation and destruction. She is attended by the angel Sour, who serves as her attendant and martial arts teacher. In the future timeline where Zamasu kills the Supreme Kais, Helles also perishes as a direct result of this link.
In terms of development, her initial disdain for Universe 7’s informal attitude softens as she comes to appreciate the beauty in Goku's fighting spirit. She undergoes a brief moment of reflection when witnessing Potara fusion, finding an unexpected form of beauty in the shimmering fragments of a destroyed pair of earrings. Ultimately, her universe is erased but later restored when Universe 7 wishes for all erased universes to return.
Helles possesses the standard abilities of a God of Destruction, including the power of Destruction to erase anything from existence, flight, telepathy, and ki manipulation. In the manga adaptation, she demonstrates additional capabilities such as magical materialization, which she uses to summon a bow and arrow strong enough to pierce the arm of another God of Destruction, Liquiir of Universe 8. She is also shown capable of creating a barrier for defensive purposes.
