Description
Gryll, whose name is sometimes romanized as Grill or Greel, is a fictional character from the anime series Dragon Ball Super. He appears as a minor antagonist during the Copy-Vegeta Saga, serving as the initial threat before the more dangerous Commeson entity is unleashed.

Gryll is an extraterrestrial criminal from Planet Saute who is a wanted fugitive in the Milky Way Galaxy, pursued by the Galactic Patrolman Jaco. Physically, he is a large, muscular humanoid with teal-colored skin and a distinctly pointed head that resembles the shape of a pickaxe or hammer. He has sharp, pointed teeth and orange markings on his shoulders. His abdomen features what appears to be a gold or metallic abdominal section, and his only clothing is a simple black or spandex waistband.

In terms of personality, Gryll embodies the characteristics of a common and ruthless criminal. His primary interest is in obtaining power, specifically the legendary Superhuman Water of Planet Potaufeu, a substance rumored to grant immense strength to whoever drinks it. He is driven purely by self-interest and shows little to no concern for the well-being of his henchmen, despite their apparent loyalty to him. Gryll is pragmatic and cunning, willing to resort to underhanded tactics such as taking hostages to achieve his goals. This is demonstrated when he uses a weakened Monaka as a hostage to force Goten and Trunks to surrender. He is also dismissively arrogant, refusing to listen to the warnings of the native Potage, who insists that the Superhuman Water does not exist.

Grylls role in the story takes place on Planet Potaufeu. He and his gang arrive on the planet to locate the container holding the Superhuman Water, which is sealed by a key. After a confrontation with the young Saiyans Goten and Trunks, who easily defeat his men, Gryll successfully captures Monaka and forces the group to hand over the key. His key relationships in the narrative are functional and antagonistic. He interacts with his unnamed henchmen primarily as disposable tools, and he views his captives, including Potage, Goten, Trunks, and Monaka, as obstacles to be eliminated or used for leverage. Upon opening the container, Gryll is not met with a power-enhancing elixir but with Commeson, a purple, liquid-based bioweapon created by Potaufeus inhabitants for self-defense. The Commeson absorbs Gryll and creates an exact, powerful copy of him. While the copy wreaks havoc, the original Gryll is left severely weakened and gradually fades away, ultimately disappearing from existence altogether.

Gryll undergoes a brief but definitive negative development arc from a confident aggressor to a victim of his own greed. His pursuit of power leads directly to his destruction, serving as a cautionary narrative about the dangers of seeking easy strength. In terms of abilities, Gryll is not exceptionally powerful, especially when compared to the Saiyan characters. Realizing that his henchmen are being defeated by Trunks and Goten, he chooses to retreat rather than engage them directly. He does possess the standard ability to fly using ki and, along with his crew, is reliant on ray guns for combat. His notable techniques are minimal, and his significance to the plot is primarily as a catalyst who unleashes the more formidable Commeson threat.
