Movie
Description
Muten is an elderly martial arts master who lives alone on a small island in a house known as Kame House. He is easily recognized by his bald head, thick white mustache and beard, and the large turtle shell he carries on his back. He typically wears beach clothes or a martial arts suit and almost always wears a pair of sunglasses. His title, Muten, reflects his status as a legendary martial arts sage, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters on Earth.

In terms of personality, Muten presents a striking contrast between great wisdom and comedic weakness. He is perceptive and insightful, able to read the character of others quickly. This is demonstrated when he uses the Flying Nimbus Cloud to test whether Goku is honest and pure of heart, and he immediately recognizes Goku's good nature when the boy successfully rides it. At the same time, he is prone to lecherous behavior, most notably when he demands that Bulma show him her breasts in exchange for his Dragon Ball. Despite this flaw, he is fundamentally kind-hearted and possesses a strong sense of responsibility.

Muten's motivation in the story is primarily to guide the younger generation. He does not seek personal glory or power. When Pansy asks him directly to help defeat King Gurumes, he declines, explaining that Goku and Bulma have the strength and courage needed to handle the situation. His decision reflects his belief that others must rise to meet challenges on their own.

His role in the narrative is that of a mentor and a catalyst. He is the one who provides Goku with the Flying Nimbus Cloud, a magical cloud that only the pure of heart can ride, which becomes one of Goku's most enduring tools. He also demonstrates his immense power when he destroys an attacking submarine with the Kamehameha, the signature technique he developed over fifty years. This act not only saves his friends but also reveals the true extent of his abilities. Additionally, he teaches Goku the Kamehameha, passing on his most important technique to the next generation.

Muten's key relationship in this story is with Goku. He serves as a gatekeeper who tests Goku's worthiness and then provides him with essential tools and knowledge. His relationship with Bulma is more transactional and comedic, as he attempts to use his Dragon Ball to extract a favor from her. He also has a brief but meaningful connection with Pansy, whom he reassures and redirects toward her own strength.

In terms of development, Muten does not undergo a major personal change during the film, but his role transitions from a reclusive figure living quietly on his island to an active participant in the struggle against King Gurumes. He initially appears disinterested in the wider world but becomes involved when his home is attacked, and he ultimately contributes by sharing his knowledge and power.

Regarding notable abilities, Muten is a master of martial arts who has spent centuries honing his body and techniques. His most famous ability is the Kamehameha, a powerful energy wave that concentrates ki and releases it as a devastating beam. He is also able to summon the Flying Nimbus Cloud, which responds only to those with a pure heart. Beyond these specific techniques, he possesses immense physical strength and stamina, as well as a deep understanding of ki and combat strategy. His combat experience makes him a formidable fighter despite his aged appearance.
