Description
Hachiemon of Awa is a tanuki demon hailing from the Awa region. He serves as a loyal attendant to the monk Miroku, though he doesn't constantly travel with him. While understanding Miroku well, Hachiemon exhibits a mischievous streak, occasionally impersonating the monk to sell fake seals or pursue romantic encounters with human women, leading to confrontations when exposed.
His brown fur covers most of his body, contrasting with the cream-colored fur on his face. He wears simple clothing and lacks notable weapons or combat prowess, relying on laying smoke screens to escape danger. As a tanuki, he possesses innate transformative abilities: he can assume Miroku's form or transform into a giant yellow gourd by placing a leaf on his head, gaining the capability of flight in this form.
Hachiemon emerges as pivotal in key events. Shortly after Moroha's birth, her parents, Inuyasha and Kagome, entrust him to transport the infant to the safety of the Wolf Demon Tribe, shielding her from Kirinmaru and Sesshomaru. Later, he aids Inuyasha's group by providing aerial transportation in perilous situations, using his gourd form to evacuate them from enemy territory or deliver them into hazardous zones. During the forest fire that separated Sesshomaru's twin daughters, Towa and Setsuna, Hachiemon was involved in safeguarding Moroha, reinforcing his role in protecting the younger generation during crises. Though not a fighter, his utility as transport and his willingness to assist in critical moments highlight his supportive nature within the narrative.
