Description
Natoru is a supporting character in the animated film The Cat Returns. He is a bipedal cat who serves as a high-ranking servant of the Cat King, tasked with carrying out the king's orders, particularly those related to the human girl Haru Yoshioka. Natoru is determined and endlessly persistent in his duties, often seen chasing after Haru or organizing the king's schemes. He is blissfully unaware of the trouble his actions cause, acting as a classic lackey and yes-man who follows instructions without question. His motivations are simple: to please the Cat King and ensure the success of the kingdom's plans, especially the king's desire to have Haru marry Prince Lune.

In the story, Natoru functions as a secondary antagonist and a source of comic relief. He is the one who initially escorts Haru into the Cat Kingdom and later oversees many of the attempts to keep her there, such as arranging the grand banquet and deploying guards during the escape sequence. Despite his high standing, he is not particularly competent; his efforts often backfire or are easily thwarted by the Baron, Muta, and Haru. Key relationships include his unwavering loyalty to the Cat King, his adversarial pursuit of Haru, and his brief interactions with Muta and the Baron, whom he treats as obstacles to be removed. Natoru does not undergo any significant character development; he remains a loyal henchman throughout the film. Notable abilities include his authority over other cat guards and his ability to navigate the bureaucracy of the Cat Kingdom, though he displays no magical powers or combat skills beyond commanding others. In the original manga, Natoru appears in a comedic epilogue where he continues to pester Haru even after the film's main events.
