Description
Jamira is a recurring character known for his distinctive appearance, primarily recognized by his bright red hair. He is introduced early in the first season of the anime as a duelist sent by the Temple to test and challenge the protagonist, Shobu Kirifuda. He is sometimes referred to by the nickname "The Goblin". In later story arcs, Jamira explains that he is on a journey to understand the true nature of Kaijudo creatures, aiming to become an authentic Kaijudo duelist after an experience of being attacked by real creatures from the other world.

Jamira's personality is a mix of cunning showmanship and a desire for respect. He is characterized by a willingness to cheat to win, famously employing underhanded tricks during duels. He also performs a unique and somewhat theatrical dance known as the Viper's Dance, which he uses in an attempt to confuse or unnerve his opponents. Despite his sly tactics, he is frequently portrayed as being unable to defeat Shobu, often losing in the face of the protagonist's talent and determination. However, as the series progresses, Jamira shows a capacity for change, as seen in the Duel Masters Battle Arena Tournament where he duels fairly and earns respect from others.

His primary motivation for dueling is often tied to his status and ego. Initially, he seeks to defeat Shobu to rejoin the Temple from which he was expelled following an early loss. He also tries to prove his strength as a leader to his followers, Ferne and Ernie, whom he defeated and subsequently took under his wing as an apprentice. Later, his motivations evolve as he abandons his followers for a personal quest to learn more about the creatures of the Kaijudo world, indicating a shift from petty rivalry to a deeper, more personal goal.

Jamira's role in the story is primarily that of an early rival and recurring opponent for Shobu. He serves as an initial hurdle to test Shobu's skills and character. He is not a main antagonist but rather a persistent secondary character whose paths cross with the main group on several occasions. He participates in major tournaments, including the Duel Masters Invitational Junior Circuit Tournament and the Duel Masters Battle Arena Tournament. He is also present during more dramatic events, such as being one of the duelists invited to a mysterious island where the human and creature worlds converge. In the manga, he is depicted as someone who follows Shobu's journey from afar, cheering for him during a final duel.

Key relationships define much of Jamira's screen time. His most significant dynamic is with Shobu Kirifuda, whom he views as a rival and a target to be defeated. This relationship forces Jamira to confront his own weaknesses, both in terms of skill and character. He also has a brief but notable relationship with Kokujo, as Jamira accidentally swaps his deck with Kokujo's. Using this borrowed deck, he challenges Shobu to demonstrate his strength to his followers but ultimately loses and is forced to return it. Later in the series, he forms a mentorship dynamic with his followers, Ferne and Ernie, before leaving them to pursue his own path.

Jamira undergoes notable development over the course of the series. He begins as a somewhat comedic cheater who is easily defeated. In the second season, known as Season 1.5, he is shown seeking to prove his leadership abilities to his followers. By the time of Duel Masters Charge, he has changed significantly. He adopts a new appearance with a long tongue and a mega cobra, and more importantly, he abandons his cheating ways. He duels fairly, even in a loss, and makes a good impression on others, showing a clear departure from his earlier behavior.

Regarding his abilities as a duelist, Jamira is shown to be competent enough to defeat other opponents. He once won a tournament final by using a Death Smoke card to destroy an opponent's Aqua Guard, securing his victory. His decks have varied over time. Early in the series, his deck is based on the keyword Shield Trigger. After his experience using Kokujo's deck, he transitions to building a deck based on the Darkness Civilization, specifically focusing on the Hedrian race of cards.
