TV-Series
Description
Mimi Tasogare is a character introduced early in the Duel Masters anime series. She initially appears as a cheerful, somewhat ditzy girl who claims to know nothing about the Duel Masters card game and becomes friends with Shobu Kirifuda and his classmates. However, this persona is a cover. Mimi is in truth the second of the four Temple Guardians of the Junior Duelist Center, a highly skilled duelist who was recruited to the temple by Hakuoh. She was assigned by the Master to spy on Shobu, but as she grows close to him and the others, her loyalty shifts. She genuinely befriends Shobu, Saiyuki, and Rakuda, and ultimately cannot bring herself to betray them.

Mimi’s personality is marked by a sharp contrast between her public mask and her true self. Outwardly, she acts naive and fascinated by simple concepts, pretending not to understand strategy. In reality, she is exceptionally intelligent, perceptive, and a master strategist. She is also a formidable martial artist, having reached a 40th dan in karate and being the successor to the Hell Fist school, a one-hit kill technique. Her physical prowess is such that she can punch a hole in a wall with ease. When she becomes serious, her demeanor shifts completely to a stern, commanding presence.

Her primary motivation evolves over the course of the story. Initially, she follows orders from the Master to observe Shobu. After forming genuine bonds, her motivation becomes protecting her friends and helping Hakuoh, whom she cares for deeply. She later pleads with Shobu to help return Hakuoh to his former self when the Master takes control of him. When the Master becomes frustrated with Mimi’s inability to betray Shobu, he takes over her mind and uses her body to duel Shobu. After losing that duel, Mimi is expelled from the Temple. Despite this, she remains a loyal ally to Shobu and continues to support him on his adventures.

Mimi’s key relationships include her friendship with Shobu, who becomes her most trusted confidant; her feelings for Hakuoh, the first Temple Guardian who recruited her; and the admiration of Rakuda, who has a crush on her. She also has a twin brother named Benny Ha-ha, though he is a less prominent figure. Within the Temple hierarchy, she answers directly to the Master, often seen speaking on her cell phone with the phrase “Yes, Master.”

Her character development is defined by her shift from an enemy agent to a close friend and ally. She is introduced as a deceptive figure, but her arc shows her choosing friendship over duty, and she pays the price with expulsion. Nevertheless, she retains her skills and continues to grow as both a duelist and a person.

In terms of abilities, Mimi is an expert duelist who primarily uses a Nature Civilization deck, but she is also known for incorporating Shield Trigger cards from all civilizations into her strategy, earning her the nickname “Shield Trigger’s Pro Mimi.” She is a master of trap-based play, using Shield Triggers to turn the tide of battles. Her martial arts abilities complement her dueling, making her a physically capable combatant as well. She is also highly analytical and can assess opponents quickly.
