Description
Android 14 is a fictional antagonist from the 1992 film Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. He is an artificial being created by the supercomputer of the villainous Dr. Gero, which continued its creator's work after his death. Android 14 was constructed with a single, primary directive: to locate and terminate the Earth's protector, Son Goku. He is part of a trio of androids, activated alongside his companions Android 13 and Android 15, to carry out this mission.
In terms of personality, Android 14 is the strong, silent type, exhibiting a cold and stoic demeanor. He rarely speaks and maintains an unsmiling, expressionless face throughout his appearance. In the original Japanese version of the film, his dialogue is almost nonexistent, limited to uttering only his target's name, "Son Goku". English dubs have given him a few additional lines, such as taunting Future Trunks about using a sword, but his fundamental nature as a taciturn and relentless machine remains unchanged. His motivation is purely functional, lacking any personal vendetta or ambition beyond the completion of his programmed objective.
Android 14 plays a significant supporting role as an initial obstacle for the Z-Fighters. He first appears in a city, attacking the restaurant where Goku and his family are eating. After being led to a remote glacial battlefield by Goku and Future Trunks, the fighting intensifies. While Android 13 engages Goku, Android 14 is left to duel with Future Trunks. His primary function in the narrative is to demonstrate the threat posed by this new generation of androids and to ultimately serve as a component for the main villain's power-up. After a fierce battle, Future Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan and destroys Android 14 by slicing him in half with his sword. However, even in defeat, Android 14 fulfills his purpose, as his surviving components, along with those of Android 15, are absorbed by Android 13, allowing the lead antagonist to transform into the more powerful Super Android 13.
His most significant relationship is with his creator, Dr. Gero's supercomputer, to which he is directly linked. This link allows him to analyze his opponents' battle data in real-time, predict their movements, and fight with incredible efficiency. He also fights in perfect synchronization with his counterpart, Android 15, working together to overwhelm their enemies before their one-on-one duels begin. His primary rival is Future Trunks, who ultimately proves to be his superior after transforming into a Super Saiyan. As a creation with no personal history, Android 14 does not undergo any character development; he is a static, unthinking weapon.
Notable abilities include superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as unlimited energy and stamina due to his mechanical nature. He possesses the power of flight and can fire various energy blasts. One of his signature moves is the Android Charge 14, a powerful attack he uses against Future Trunks. He also demonstrates immense physical power, notably catching the blade of Trunks's sword with only two fingers and lifting the young Super Saiyan into the air with ease. His 3D Scan Mode and link to the supercomputer give him advanced analytical capabilities, allowing him to counter his enemies' techniques effectively.
